Would you do your own Makeup if you’re pretty good at it ?

Janessa, on January 8, 2021 at 5:00 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 1 45
So I have had makeup done by professionals and I got Mine done for a wedding in 2019 and wasn’t impressed . I wouldn’t say I’m an expert but I’m
Pretty good and know how to work with my features . Has any other brides done your own makeup and was it worth it or would you have done different?

I would not do it myself at all. Mainly for the stress factor. The average person doesn't own makeup formulated specifically for HD photography. Also not all makeup artist are alike. Some will give you a neutral look and others go dramatic. Don't rule out a professional based on one bad experience. That is what consultations and trials are for: so you and the vendor are on the same page.

I am planning on doing my own make-up! I never wear heavy make-up and know I won't like what a professional does. My FH wouldn't even recognize me with full glam make-up on, haha! I know they say the heavy make-up photographs better, but I trust my own skills to darken my feautures just enough without going overboard. You do you! It is your wedding day!

Even if I was a makeup professional, I would still get mine done by someone on my wedding day. I used my wedding morning/afternoon as a time of pampering. So it was nice to have someone else doing all the work for me.

My grandmother and aimtie together decided that for my 16th birthday I should have a few lessons from a pro in hair and makeup for myself
I have always been grateful. The few super special occasions when I have paid to get it done, once with a broken hand, once the other arm in a cast, I have been very unhappy with what they did. And absolutely hated the situations, having to wait turns for hours with whole bridal parties when I was accustomed to doing myself, an hour to an hour and 1/4 from stepping in the shower to going out the door. I would not have accepted in one out of ten of the bridal parties I have if group grooming for 4-5 hours before the wedding was required. I hate it. So yup, for my wedding I did myself., sharing my quarters with then FI. We had the morning to spend with others, I went for lunch in towm with 2bm and 2 sisters, he with his father and brothers. we got to our room at 2 he was done and left at 2:30, and I took til 3, then called mom who helped with my veil.and headpiece. FI and I had a photo shoot before the wedding at 3:15 and I was right on time. My ladies were with the rest of WP and parents with a separate photographer, all ready, on the other side of the Inn grounds. So nice to have the smallest part of the day , under 1.5 hours, for everyone getting ready in their own baths. My ladies, like me, had all at some time had jobs where they had to be picture perfect every single day for work, so a good match for my style. S couple of my new SIL are hairdressers or HMU, and they were staying down the street, and took care of FMIL. My side, I offered HMU expecting all to refuse amd they did. If you can do your own, do it. Take some lessons if need be, so you will always have the skill.

I did my own makeup! I’m not a professional by any means, but good at doing my own makeup. It turned out great. Similarly, I’ve been unimpressed with professional makeup in the past, although, covid really made my decision for me. I did buy a more full coverage foundation than I normally use and Urban Decay All Nighter Spray (this is a miracle) as a setting spray. If you’re comfortable, go for it.

We (being me and the bridal party) plan to have it professionally done. I plan to do trials with the artist to make sure we are both on the same page for the look I'd like to have on my wedding day.

Sure wouldn’t. I can do my everyday makeup or even my weekend night out makeup, but I’m not experienced in dealing with high quality cameras, flashback, and all the other things professional photography entails. I also didn’t want to spend hours on my wedding day trying to perfect my look.

I definitely wouldn't. It would be a lot of added stress and while you might know what looks good for your every day look it might not photography well. Instead I would hire a makeup artist and make sure you do a trial. Just because you didn't like the makeup artist that your friend hired doesn't mean you won't like someone else.

At most 30 min for a full makeup look
But nice to hear others opinions

I’ll be doing mine, but we aren’t having a photographer so I’m not worried about looking washed out in photos or anything.
One thing I AM doing is getting a lash lift and tint because I do not want to deal with mascara!

I’m planning on doing my own, but I’m also obsessed with makeup. I would watch a lot of tutorials and practice your wedding look a bunch of times beforehand if you are going to do it yourself so that you can do it easily without stress

Doing my own makeup is not stressful at all. I love to, and enjoy playing around with it. It is professional make up people who always want to make me look like a stranger, I hate. And worst, being stuck with 4-8 women while hair or make up people all take care of them for 5 hours, inc. nails. The group grooming, for hours, I hate.

I did my makeup and had no regrets. I went for a natural look. I am very particular about how make up feels on my skin and have learned what makeup feels comfortable while lasting without smudge or transfer, so did not want to risk having someone else do my makeup. My tips are to go slightly heavier than normal for it to show in photos. Check in multiple lighting. Do test runs on yourself and photograph for reference. Then you may even want to list the products & steps so you don't forget something day of. Make sure to use contouring strategies and test out applying false lashes. Practical to focus on eyes with more natural lip since you will kiss, eat and drink all night it'd be a hassle to check lips all night. Don't forget exposed skin on neck, chest, arms either. An illuminating moisturizer with a tad of foundation makes subtle body makeup.
