Would you consider a Groupon videography deal for your wedding?

Janis, on June 12, 2014 at 12:07 PM Posted in Planning 0 17

I just found what looks to be a great deal on Chicago Groupon's local services section for a $750 full HD wedding video package. It includes two cameras for the ceremony and then looks like just one after. Seems to be run by a bunch of TV news folks--but they seem to have a lot of experience, including some celebrity stories. And it's half the price of most of the vendors here. We can afford this rate and I have really been wanting video of our special day. Has anyone else seen or considered this option? http://www.groupon.com/deals/vnews-international-1

Don't have it in my budget. Maybe if it was like $100 lol.

Here's the link for the deal:

It really is inexpensive compared to what I've looked at. We're in the DIY category and there is a cheaper camera rental package on Groupon too, but I don't want to bother my friends or wedding party with making my video. And I want to see them in it, they're part of my special day too. So really leaning towards hiring someone. I mean, it only happens once, right!

Anyone else have any experience with these?

I would not hire anyone I hadn't fully vetted myself including interviewing personally.

If you discussed with them before and knew you wanted them, then maybe. but if you'd just choose them because they have a groupon? i don't think that's a very good reason to choose a vendor.

Also I just looked this up. The groupon isn't available and it doesn't even seen like it's a legitimate company that exists.

What do you mean, Stephanie? Are you in Chicago? It lets me click to buy? I left a link above, but are you looking at this same one:

I was able to get to their website. It looks like their clients are TV things. One of their videos has Kelly Rowland in an awesome wedding-ish dress. Maybe I should call groupon? Or email them?

I sure would consider a Groupon deal as long as my research into the company checked out. I live for reviews so that'd be my first stop.

Ah, it shows up now. It didn't before.

My original comment stands though. I wouldnt hired someone for something as important as videography that I hadn't met with and discussed what I wanted and needed.

Yeah i looked at their website too...it doesn't seem like they do weddings. When i went to their services page nothing was listed. I'd maybe try and get in contact with them directly before purchasing the groupon.

Yeah their website is confusing! I would contact them in person and try and talk to them/ meet with them before you spend that money!

Read reviews before purchasing, send the company an email, do you research before anything.

I see Photobooth groupons all the time and it says for Weddings you have to add an extra __ hundred dollars. Which it ends up being the same package price as most DJ places.

I would do it only if I have spoken with them and have already decided to go with them. I wouldn't just do it on a whim without talking to them. But I'm sure you already researched them. Just proceed with caution.

I would do a little research and actually call the place before purchasing the groupon, but I think its a great option and would definitely consider it, especially since I don't think we can afford a wedding video.

Ok.. I was able to email this guy. It was a bit confusing. The clients link takes you to a second site, one that's under his actual name. I contacted him at ***@***********.***. He didn't know the Groupon had launched, I guess earlier than scheduled. He gave me his office number and we scheduled a call to discuss more. Apparently he's this video guy in news for like 15 years and has all his one equipment. He just moved here and he's shooting weddings on the weekends. He suggested meeting for coffee prior to purchasing even so he could hear about what I wanted!! I think it could be the real deal!

You should definitely contact them first to ensure that they are even available on your wedding day. I would be very, very leery.

    Hi Janis,

How did this turn out? I'm going through the same thing and had the same question as you did a year ago so I was wondering if you met up with him, If you used the service and how it went?

    Thanks for your help!
