Would you buy a used wedding dress??

Pinkuin, on January 29, 2014 at 11:15 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 30

I am thinking of posting my gorgeous wedding gown for sale for after my October wedding. It's a high end designer and I would think someone would want to buy it for a lower price than if it was new (over 5k). Is that weird? Would you buy a used wedding dress or is trying to sell it a waste of time?? the websites charge a feww to post it too, usually about $25

Lots of people buy a pre-worn dress. It saves a ton of money. One of DH's friends did this for her wedding since they had a really tight budget.

@Tiffany, see I would think so! I kind of wished I had looked up my own dress before purchasing it new. It's a little weird but if it saves money, you really only wear it for a few hrs anyway!

If I find a Hayley Paige used, I'm all over it. Otherwise it's not worth it

I bought a preowned dress and I loveeeee it. Got a great deal and I don't need it altered. I just don't understand overspending for something you'll be wearing for a few hours.

    I agree its a couple of hours I don't think I could spend more than 700 on a dress. If I would've found a preowned that I love I would've bought it!

When I first started looking, I looked for a used Ellie Saab and Oscar De La Renta. My girl fired found hers used on eBay.

So, I have a designer dress, but it's not a designer wedding dress (the designer does wedding dresses but I don't think they're very popular; they're mostly a prom dress designer). The first thing I did was check eBay to see if anyone was selling the gown I wanted in my size.

The thing is, this is a dress you're wearing only once (let's be realistic), and if you're paying a lot of money for it, it'll likely hold up for at least a few more wedding nights. Might as well let someone else wear it, especially someone who wouldn't otherwise be able to afford it new.

I did for my reception from stillwhite. FH wanted a specific style and I couldn't find it anywhere and I live on a rock so it had to be done.

Yes, and in fact, I did! I got my dress from someone who changed her mind about wearing it, but I would have gotten it even if it had been worn. It may take you a while to sell, and you'll probably only get 40-75% of your money back, but a lot of women buy used, and a lot of women really want a designer gown but can't afford it new.

I wouldn't have before my first wedding, but I wasn't opposed to it for this wedding. I ended up buying the sample at David's. At the end of the day, IMO, it's a dress. Who cares. If it looks good what's the difference.

I wouldn't. This is my wedding and I wanted my dress to be MY dress. Besides, I have never seen a dress even close to mine.

I would and I did. Ended up with a beautiful Pronovias gown for 400 instead of the 1300 it would have retailed for...and the alterations should be minimal. I don't think of it as bad luck but rather sharing in someone else's happy ever after. Smiley smile

If you wont regret selling it, do it. It's just going to sit in your closet. Lots of brides buy used gowns. Look on tradesy. It's a great site and you can get examples of the used gowns for sale and the ones that have sold already.

My engagement ring and wedding band are antiques. They go together really well even though they came from two different couples (who were each married more than 50 years -- so I feel they are lucky rings). Not sure I would have wanted rings left at a pawn shop after a divorce.

My 1940s wedding gown came from a vintage clothing shop. I don't know, but I hope, that the previous owner was happily married for many years.
