Worst wedding stories?

Casey, on May 4, 2018 at 10:07 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 32

Today was a stressful day! It was like a series of unfortunate events related to various wedding things and family.

Cheer me up! I always love reading the "worst wedding stories" threads; so what are yours??

I don't really consider it a "worst wedding," but I remember going to a wedding that felt more like a church picnic, potluck food (loved whoever brought that chick fil a tray though), and all! The funniest thing - and even the bride and groom joke about it - is that the bride and groom wrote their own vows but didn't communicate them to the officiant, a dear friend of theirs. He actually made their wedding bands because he's a metalworker, and his whole officiant script was about how they completed each other like how metals are melded together. The bride's vows? "You don't complete me - God does." The officiant was speechless!!

Cheer me up with your worst wedding stories!

Sorry you have had an overwhelming day! Those threads always cheer me up too Smiley smile

I actually work at a wedding venue, and some of the weddings are CRAZY! At one, the bride's brother's baby momma showed up uninvited. This ticked off the brother's current date and they started yelling in the middle of the dance floor. Soon it became kicking and screaming and pulling hair, and the bride started crying because the were ruining the wedding and JOINED IN ON THE GIRL'S FIGHT. This led to the brother fighting the groom for trying to interfere, and the brother, baby momma, and brother's date was kicked out. We tried to call a taxi for the VERY drunk brother, and he refused, and drove himself off the premises. We got a call 10 minutes later that he had gotten to the end of the road and crashed.

At this same wedding, the best man was too drunk to give his speech, the Father of the Bride said on mic that he didn't like the groom, and the groom's mother called the other family cheap. It was a mess!!!

At another, the groom said the wrong name... it was awful!

    It wasn't bad, just unpleasant:

I was invited last minute to a friends wedding (obvious b-listing) so I canceled plans to go because we're friends! Right?
The ceremony started EARLY so a lot of us guests walked in at the END of the ceremony!
She totally ignored all of us less-important guests. Wouldn't even say hi. I finally got a hold of her to take a picture and she made it obvious I was wasting her time.
    Cash bar.
Never sent a thank you card for the gift or at least my presence.

We're not friends anymore. It became obvious to me that she was just using me for a gift. Even her behavior afterwards was rude so I ended that friendship. Not that she noticed, I guess.

Omg wow that’s so awful! Makes it sound like she was just trying to make her wedding reception fuller/get more gifts.

These stories are always so interesting to me. I guess I've been lucky, because I never have a story for these threads.

At my cousin's wedding in a GORGEOUS Chicago venue which I know she paid $$$$$ for, I waited over an hour after the head table was served to get my entree. How do I know? We were seated directly next to them! They (and the other half of the diners) were completely done with their meals before my table's food came out. It was sad, because everything else was so great about the wedding.

When I was 21 my friend had a small wedding, maybe 30 people. Our mutual friend was going through a rough time with drinking and she was getting very drunk very early on. The waiters cut her off and she freaked out and was going to leave but we got her keys. However she had another key hidden in her car with a bottle of vodka. She drove off and went by her bosses house 30 minutes away and crashed her car into his car...thank god she was okay but everyone was worried sick about her. Such a nightmare.

At my sister's wedding in the middle of an Oklahoma park on a very hot summer day, might have very well been the worst day/wedding that I've ever witnessed. Two of her bridesmaids, the groom's sister's, had horrible white wifebeaters under their dark red dresses and would not listen to anything! My sister also asked for everyone's hair to be in a pony tail and they decided it was ok to wear their hair in braids.
We got to the park and they had dug up the sewer line that very morning and we had to change locations in the park on abrupt notice. Almost no one on my sister's side of the family showed, my dad tried to stand beside the groomsmen after walking her down and tried not to give her away. We had to tell him yo sit down next to my mom!
The ring bearer waved the rings around and then we couldn't get the rings untied because the knots tightened so much. Then out of no where it got pretty windy, lovely Oklahoma weather, and my sister's veil flew off and down the isle several times and I had to run after it!!!!
We had lunch, sandwiches and his whole side of the family wouldn't talk to us and literally crowed around one table.
Then the last straw, my sister went to go change out of her wedding dress and it was so hot that day that she sweated and the dress suction cupped itself to her. We literally had to tear her dress off of her, it took three people.

My worst was an unseasonably hot day in the high 90's. We had to ride school buses without air conditioning to the outdoor ceremony site. No shade, started late, lasted over an hour, someone passed out and an ambulance had to be called. Hot bus ride back to the reception venue where the cash bar was waiting (1st and only cash bar I've ever seen). There was no seating chart and the tables were set for 7 causing many couples to be split up for dinner. The speeches were horrible but the worst was the MOH who pretty much admitted she had a crush on the groom and may have slept with him years before. The buffet had cold vegetables, the DJ was terrible, they did the most awkward up the dress digging around for the garter I've ever seen, and there was no cake - only dry cupcakes made by their friendor.

Catholic ceremony at 1, reception at 5:30 in another town. Cash bar, food was portioned very strictly and we were so hungry. Grooms brother left to go to Wendy’s for a burger because he and his wife were so hungry. They came back and gloated that they had eaten and weren’t starving like the rest of us. Tiniest dance floor so not everyone could dance. We left early as did the other 6 people at our table. Bride insists it was the best wedding in the history of weddings.

Yes! I was at a table with her old friends and there was a girl that said they weren't friends anymore so she was shocked to get an invite. She came because she thought this would be a good way to patch things up. Then she was ignored like myself. I feel so bad for her since she went into this thinking she'd get to renew a friendship

I went to a wedding once in Jekyl Island and there was no formal reception. We drove so many hours for a brief wedding on the beach. Then they had us drive to Golden Corral to buy our food. I don't even think there was a cake. Definitely one I will remember for all of the wrong reasons.

Overall our wedding day was amazing but we for sure had some bad things happen. 75 and sunny the day before the wedding....wedding day 30 degrees, snow, high winds and a blizzard! Closed down the interstate and half our guests couldn’t get here. Guess that’s what you get for having an April wedding in Nebraska! Then right before our rehearsal dinner we got news my grandmother was admitted to the hospital and wasn’t going to be at the wedding. Was told everything was gonna be okay; first day of our honeymoon comes around and family calls to tell us she passed away. Our photographer was late and missed some pictures I would have liked and last my hair dresser did not know what she was doing at all. Even though those things were bad I was just beyond happy I came out with an amazing husband

Not really a horror story like some of these but definitely the strangest wedding I’ve been to...
the reception was at a really beautiful venue with an amazing view. Very shortly after dinner, the bride and her MOH/sister decided that they’d rather go back to the hotel and hang out and go swimming in the hotel pool than be at the reception. So they ended the reception hours early; had the staff pack up the bar and start cleaning up the room. This was also a wedding with drink tickets, which was confusing, and several guests on the groom’s side(including his grown children) showed up in super casual clothes(I’m talking like t shirts and ripped jeans). It was very odd, and a lot of us were kind of annoyed because we had travelled from several states away.

The worst wedding I’ve ever been to was one in which I was a bridesmaid, and it was a mess from the beginning. Bride wanted a bachelorette beach weekend, which I’m all about. However, her cousin who was also a bridesmaid, brought her boyfriend’s children. We were stuck with kids the whole weekend and couldn’t really have inappropriate fun. This same bridesmaid came up with the hairbrained idea that all the bridesmaids should buy the bride a pandora charm for her pandora bracelet. Really? That was $80, and I was in my twenties and very cash strapped at this time. I was bullied into buying the charm anyway. Never heard of the bridesmaids giving the bride a gift before the wedding.

At the wedding, they decided to do pictures before AND after the ceremony with us. Their photographer had diabetes which she cannot help, but she moved extremely slow and had to stop often to eat and drink. Pictures after the ceremony took almost an hour and a half. I was hungry and grumpy.

We get to the ceremony which is thirty minutes away. When we walked in, it was obvious that the couple had over invited and had wedding crashers. There was no where for me to sit, so I had to eat my dinner standing up. By this point I desperately needed a drink. I went to the bar and ordered a wine. “Sorry, we’re all out.” So no alcohol for me.

To top it all off, I had written a sweet poem for the bride and groom that I read during the reception. They didn’t get to hear it since their guests were laughing and talking all throughout my speech/poem. I was so mad I wanted to leave after that, but I ended up sticking it out. I’ve never been a bridesmaid for anyone since.

At a friend’s wedding... the morning of the wedding the MIL told the groom (her son) he didn’t need to marry the bride which sent her into tears. At the reception, she ignored the seating chart to put her friends at the best tables, tried to thank everyone for coming to her party before the mic was taken from her (she didn’t help or pay for anything), and hid all the centerpieces under tables and gave them to her friends on their way out! Worse MIL drama I’ve ever seen.
