Witnesses needed?

Steven, on March 11, 2023 at 11:06 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 3

Hey all:

My fiancée and I are in NC. The law requires two witnesses to sign off on the license. Do officiants sometimes provide these? It's just my fiancée and I...no one else.

Thanks

No. Generally you provide witnesses yourself. That can be each other’s best friend or some other close relative. Both need to be 18+ to sign legal documents.

You are responsible for providing your own witnesses. There are some companies out there who specialize in elopements though, who will oftentimes provide package deals (such as officiant, witnesses, bouquet, photography, etc). If you do not want to provide your own witnesses, id look into one of those companies.

If you're going to the courthouse to get married they might be able to find 2 people to stand in. If that's your plan, I'd call the court to make sure they could do that though.
