Why would you rent a dance floor?

Mika, on September 18, 2012 at 12:45 PM Posted in Planning 0 12

My dj offers a portable dance floor for an extra (pretty high) price... Does anyone know how that is different from the regular floor?

You only need one if your wedding is outside or your venue doesn't have one...most do though

I don't know, I guess it's to show people where the actual dance floor is. One venue I looked at required us to rent a dance floor and it was like $150!

Some venues want it to protect their floors/carpet, or if you're out on grass. But we're just having some open space act as the dance floor.

I've always been kind of curious about dance floors.... what's wrong with being on the carpet?

I think it's good to rent a dance floor if the flooring is cracked or irregular. Like, grass, sand, or an outdoor flagstone patio or something else where people could get their heels stuck or trip. Or maybe if you have a great big open undefined stretch of carpet, it's good to have a dance floor so people congregate together? It is kinda hard to dance and spin around on carpet, if you really like to dance. It's easier to get stuck and fall over. Smiley smile

Our venue floor is concrete. H talked about renting a dance floor b/c it's more springy and comfortable on your feet, but then I reminded him that this was a

wedding and not a salsa dance competition and he forgot about it. Smiley smile The concrete was really smooth and waxed and there were 4 poles surrounded the "dance floor" area so it worked out great!

Heels can get stuck in the carpet and it's dangerous for the guests and can ruin the carpet.

I'm renting one because the dance area is concrete. I agree with Kris that it's probably not strictly necessary, but I don't want people's feet to hurt Smiley smile

We are renting a dance floor because dancing will be on the deck and we don't want heels to fall into the slats.

Dance floors are rented for outdoor weddings, and venues that don't have them. For outdoor weddings, Imho, renting one is a must so noone hurts themselves.

Our venue had never had a wedding. The floor was carpeting. DH wanted a dance floor because "It is easier to dance on." Well, when he saw how much it cost, he agreed that dancing on the carpeting was just fine.

Cate's venue had a granite dance floor. It was lovely to dance on, and looked fabulous. The look went with the overall decor she was looking for. Thank goodness, we didn't have to rent.

Most venues have portable wood floors protect their original floors, especially if it is carpet. It also provides a better dance surface. So check with your venue first to see what they require or have.
