Why purple uplighting?

Alicia, on December 19, 2014 at 10:06 AM Posted in Planning 0 25

I've seen so many weddings on tv and pictures of weddings where the uplighting is purple, even when the wedding colors aren't purple. Is there a reason for this? I've always wondered and it just popped in my head that one of y'all might know why.

No clue, my uplighting will be pink lol. Purple is a pretty popular color for weddings overall though.

    Maybe it's a fad?

Our uplights will be purple because that's one of our colors. I've never noticed this, I probably will now that you have mentioned it lol.

We did but our colors were purple/silver/white so it made sense (and it's my favorite color). I think a lot of people might choose it though because it dims and softens a room, while also keeping a romantic feel.

Typically blue and purple come out the same. its a "lush" color so its used often. my colors are green & grey so that color lighting would look creepy.

My venue provides uplighting & when they were showing me all of the colors, purple just looked the prettiest in my opinion. We were already thinking about making purple our wedding color but I think that really convinced us. So now our colors are deep purple & lavendar

I think that and it doesn't have a feeling or season associated with it. Blue is underwater/wintery, green is kind of Halloweenish, red could go this way as well. But purple isn't closely associated with anything like that.

Hmm interesting. Because my FH is a Steelers fan, he will refuse to have purple anywhere in our wedding.

^LOL Alicia that is too funny. We are huge 49ers fans (we live in Nor Cal), and as much as we would have wanted to incorporate the colors, red just screams angry when plastered all over a room (would be cool if we were doing a Halloween theme though!)

Lol @ Shelby H. If I start talking about Wedding boards he will constantly make fun of me. When I was pregnant I was always talking about the baby boards and it drove him nuts.

When we looked at a venue with up lighting, the owner said that purple is used most frequently because it looks best in pictures. Could be that.

My wedding colors were not purple and my uplighting was. It's really the only color that works for uplighting (other than pink, i guess)

    red uplighting = haunted house

    green uplighting = haunted house

blue uplighting = under the sea

orange uplighting = umm... ok? I guess? everyone will look like oompa loompas in the pics

yellow = everyone looks jaundiced lol

My main color is green and that would make everyone look like the wicked witch. So we went with pink lol.

Well ... my colors were purple (eggplant), gold (champagne), and white. So I got to pull my Ravens theme under the radar. The only two people who noticed was my sister and H.

I have talked to my DJ about doing pink ones on one wall but my venue has so many windows and my wedding is in the summer so IDK if you will even be able to see them

Our up lighting was pink. Up lighting sets the tone in your reception room, in my opinion. Our DJ also had dance floor lights, and all of that together brought a different feel to our pictures and wedding video. I loved it all!
