As I was planning my wedding I never even considered what color my wedding dress would be. Obviously I was going to wear white. But why? For tradition sake? To showcase purity? To be the center of attention? Because white went perfectly with my winter theme? Actually I wore white because that's just what I've seen other brides do so I never considered anything else.
Are you wearing white on your wedding day? If so, why?
The tradition of wearing white actually has nothing to do with purity! Queen Victoria wore a white dress for her wedding in 1840, which started the tradition among the wealthy aristocracy. Women wore their best dress for their wedding, and white was not a common color as keeping it clean was not an easy task. It was considered a sign of extreme wealth to wear a dress that could pretty much only be worn once (since this is a time that people rarely had access to regular baths).
That being said, I'm wearing ivory (too pale for stark white) because the wedding dress I fell in love with was ivory over ivory champagne.
I'm wearing ivory! I'm not a fan of bright white, so something more subdued worked better. Like PP said, ivory makes me feel bridal! I don't normally wear much white everyday, so this will be a special day!
From what I learned, brides in European countries used to just wear their best dress for their wedding in any color. When Queen Victoria of Britain wore a white dress, it became super trendy. Apparently she made a lasting impression, haha! ( can you tell I love trivia lol). White didn't look so great on me so I am wearing blush/ivory but I do like tradition. Your dress is stunning!
Thank you so much for putting this out here! People can be so rude and think if someone's not a virgin, they shouldn't wear white. This irks my nerves - learn your history, people!
No. I'm wearing silver/gray. I don't own any white clothing. Not even a bra. And I am so pasty to begin with. I tried on a couple white dresses just so I could say I did it. I went in knowing white/ivory/champagne/any pastel colors were not for me.
I am going to wear white. I've thought about other colors but I guess I like the look of a white wedding dress. I love when other people have non traditional wedding gowns though. It just looks so good and unique on them.

I've seen a few brides wear red or pink and it just felt more prom like to me, no disrespect to my colorful brides. I agree that white and ivory feels more bride like but that could just be because that's the vast majority. Thank you for the compliment! My 17 year old cousin who is an aspiring designer made it.
I’m not traditional at all so I will not be wearing white.. my dress will be red!! I haven’t started shopping yet but I never saw me wearing white... red or black lol.. FH is fine with red and not black so red it is!!
I'm wearing white because my first dress was a hand-me-down ivory dress from my ex mil and now I can afford a dress. Now I can afford MY OWN wedding dress... Now I am in CONTROL!
