Why did you choose your ring? What do you love about it?

MrsO, on April 10, 2012 at 11:59 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 56

So a recent post (which has since been hidden) about someone stating that she picked out her ring to be different than the ring all her friends had sparked this thought.

Did you have a say in your ring, whether by telling your FH what you wanted or picking it out together?

Was having a unique style important to you or did you not care about who else had a similar ring if it was a style that you loved?

What was the part about your ring which made you choose it? or if it was a complete surprise, what do you love about it?

My FH and I picked out my ring together since we were reseting my grandmom's diamond. I didn't have a super specific type of ring that I wanted. I figured I would know when I saw it. I found myself leaning towards split shanks though. When I saw it, I fell in love with the split shank, the unique cut sapphires, and the carvings.

I love that it is so unique but I didn't go into ring searching needing a ring that was different from everyone else's. What about you?

FH actually picked out my ring all by himself. Round/princess cut solitaire in a very simple white gold band. It looks like a very simple/classic Tiffany setting, 6 prongs so the stone is really secure and set kind of high so it gets lots of light and sparkle. FH said he wanted something sparkly and he said the word "sparkly" a lot in his shopping process. Smiley smile

I picked out my wedding band b/c I wanted something that wouldn't distract from the solitaire, and I also wanted it to have a little detail for times I wanted to wear it alone. And also I did not want to spend a ton of money on a wedding ring.

Oh you want to see photos? Oh okay. Smiley smile This isn't my actual e-ring but it's similar.

FutureMrs.Ohler, I love your ring! It is so unique.

I had nothing to do with picking out my ring. DH knew I loved heart shaped diamonds mainly because I mentioned it ages ago. He also wanted a diamond on each side to represent our past and our future. He was actually on Helzberg's wait list for the heart shaped diamond he wanted with a wrap to go with it.

I love it because it is timeless and unique. Also, it was heartwarming to know he remembered something I said years ago. iWhat I love most about it is that it came from DH's heart and lots of hard working over time. Despite my daughter having one, I really don't care for the Tacori style with the halos. It's not my style at all. I like unique. I also prefer yellow gold over white gold and platinum. Everyone has different taste.

The wedding ring was difficult. We stumbled on the chevron and it is perfect for me. I call it my "Guido" ring.

We looked at rings together to give him some kind of idea but all I wanted was a simple solitaire, brilliant cut. He picked the perfect one for me and I love how it looks like an actual diamond shape that you would draw <> (vertical though), most people have to look twice to realize it's round lol.

Yay for your FHs Kris and Carole! They did good all on their own! Carole, that is super sweet that he had remembered that you loved heart shaped diamonds. Your wedding band goes wonderful with the heart cut of your diamond.

    Laura...Gorgeous!

FutureMrsOhler....Thanks. The one thing I love about my DH is that he does remember the most unusual things I tell him. He may forget to put out the trash, but he does remember the important stuff.

Thanks! I love seeing everyone's rings. Carole I've seen yours before but didn't realize it was heart shaped! And my FH is the same way. He um, let's say "lays low" when it comes to making plans in general. But just when you think you've got him pegged, BOOM there it is. Smiley smile

I haven't seen my ring yet. He said he wants to give it to me on a day that is special to us. (It drives me crazy because as I'm typing this I can see the Jared's bag sitting in his closet.)

FI picked it by himself though. I don't care for diamonds except as accents and I love amethyst and white gold. FI told me he took all of that into consideration when choosing and my mom and his mom both say it fits my nontraditional style.

Our bands are both simple white gold.

We had been looking at rings for a couple months before he finally picked out the one he proposed with. I had said I didn't want anything high, more of smother flatter ring. This was because in the future I didn't want to snag it on clothing or accidentally scratch children. My wedding ring will probably be a plain band, might have to be custom made, so it fits next to my e-ring.

It's actually kinda funny. About 3 weeks after we got engaged a good friend of mine proposed to his girlfriend. Saw her ring a few weeks later, very similar to mine. Doesn't matter.

He originally wanted to pick it out himself, but was worried I wouldn't like it so then we went together. We took a cruise and prior to that I kept thinking about another ring I saw on our last cruise and I couldn't stop thinking about it. (It was a flattened white pearl surrounded by diamonds). He said "well, if you find a ring you like, we'll buy it". So while in Grand Turk, my friend Jackie and I were shopping while the guys were on the beach and I fell in love with my ring. Tanzanite surrounded by diamonds. Tanzanite it rarer than diamonds, mine changes from blue to violet depending on the light, blue is FH favorite color, and tanzanite is December's birthstone which is my Mom's birthday and my dog's birthday (he saved my life). Tanzanite used to be called zoisite, but it was too close to our word "suicide" so they changed it. My Father passed away from a completed suicide. I now have all the important people in my life on the finger that is closest to my heart.

FH picked out my E ring by himself (with a little help from a sales person I'm sure) I think my jewelry selection influenced him on the store. My band is something that I've been looking at for years. I originally thought I'd purchase it for myself as a right hand ringer with my next big promotion but FH said it would be a perfect work band. I doubt that I will ever wear the two together since they don't match. I think my E ring will become something I wear when I want to feel girly.

My one and only main request was that the center stone was an emerald cut.

I have been in love with this cut since I can even remember...and I know emerald cuts are much more rare in the engagement ring world.

We did pick my ring out together. I fell head over heels in love with the setting)...every ring after that which I tried on just never compared.

I did however choose a 2nd setting, as my setting is a Tacori ring and is considerably pricy...I figured I could fall in love with whatever DH chose for me (as long as it was emerald cut)...I was happily and pleasantly surprised when he presented me with the Tacori ring Smiley smile

My wedding band is the matching band and on the other side of the e-ring is my grandmother's wedding band (I used it as my something old and the perfect addition to my set)

We picked mine out together. I was looking for something for different. But with FH being 3000 miles away we had to do it over the internet and because we were trading in what I called my "divorce ring" (long story - but it was also providing us with a huge chunk of the money towards a new ring plus what he already saved up) so we were searching the Shane Company website and had to be in certain dollar amount for the setting because of the trade in. We had settled on 3 or 4 different ones and I wanted to see them in person. Well this is the one that I fell in love with. And then I knew I wanted to go with an emerald cut diamond and once that was put in place - it was a done deal. It then took us almost 18 - 20 months to find wedding bands to go with it.

My ring choice was super important to me so i was glad when FH hinted at proposing before going ring shopping.

My ring was given to my gma in 1946 by my grandfather and worn on her hand every day of her life until she died at 87. My mother then wore it when she married my step dad and wore it until she died. My mom didnt leave my much, nor did my gma but I have this and it means so much to me to wear a piece of my history every day.

It has a killer wedding set that it sits into-a band of stones that total up to 1 carat on each side. Here's just the ring. Ill post the wedding set when I get home tonight

And, FH husband was thrilled with saving some coinage :-)

Well My Fh pretty much picked the ring all by himself.

I had told him during the course of our relationship that I really liked a Marque cut diamond. That and the fact that I normally prefer to wear yellow gold. I told him I wanted to be surprised and I wanted it to come from him though.

We did go in and look at rings once so he could get some idea of what I liked but I didn't feel comfortable with it. The only good part of our going into the ring store was that I got my finger sized so he knew exactly what size to get when that time came.

He ended up getting a Solitare Marque cut ring in white gold but he had it changed to yellow gold.
