My Dad will walk with me but we are not doing the “who gives this woman...” thing.

Because it’s absurdly out dated and sexist.

    💯 totally agree.

I'm debating between walking myself with my dad standing at his seat by the alter for a hug, or having him escort me. Sadly, I'm worried more about what others may assume and say that's hurtful to my dad if I walk myself than I am about my own desires. I'd prefer to walk alone.

Will not be doing anything related to the giving away thing.

My son, hopefully, but he gets persnickety sometimes. So it may just be me.

Truthfully I’d rather walk alone too, but I can’t take this away from my Dad. He is SO excited.

Maybe if you speak to your dad and tell him how important it is for you to walk yourself down the aisle he'll understand. Or maybe you can compromise and have him walk you halfway or something.

    I walked myself down.
I guess I just kind of wanted the attention to myself and I felt the old tradition was so patriarchal and just in general I wanted to be able to give myself away

No. It’s important to him, and I don’t feel strongly enough about it to take it away. I’d rather walk myself, but it’s more important to him to walk me than it is important to me to walk myself.

First marriage, both my parents escorted me, and both of the groom's parents escorted him. (That is the Jewish tradition.)

Second marriage, my bride and I walked together.
