We asked my uncle to do it. He did a great job.

I want to ask my grandfather to do it. He'll be the only grandfather present, and he always does it on special occasions in my family.

At most of the weddings we've done, the officiant is asked to give the blessing. However, it is perfectly acceptable to have a member of the family lead the blessing.

My old pastor, who did not marry us, gave the blessing.

If we weren't doing a picnic buffet (that starts while we are still doing the pictures), we would have FH's 13-year-old cousin do it. She sings this little song and it's so cute. It freaked me out the first time I had dinner with his family and she did it, but now it's rather endearing.

Grace-she died ten years ago. No, the BLESSING! Sorry, Ditmara, we have marathons of National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation beginning on Thanksgiving. So every time I see/hear blessing I think of that!

I didn't even think of the blessing part, so thanks for bringing it up! Looks like I need to go recruit someone for this job. Who do you want to do yours?

Everyones is going to be looking at my dad to do this I know, since he goes to church twice a day every day but he is so painfully shy (like daughter, like father) that he will flat our refuse!!

Jennhutch..I'm thinking of my stepfather because, even though he and I aren't close, I know it would mean a lot to my mom..plus, he gives good prayers. However, I think I may ask FH to pick someone on his side of his family so that his family feels involved.

I have done this on occasion, but many times I do not stay for the reception because I have another ceremony to get to. In those instances, a cherished friend or family member is asked to do this.

My pastor/officiant will likely do it, since he and his wife are staying for some of the reception. If he leaves before or doesn't want to, we have like three other ministers attending and several deacons, so we'll be good, LOL.

My grandpa is doing it. He usually does the prayers at gatherings in my family and his parents wont be there.

My FFIL is a Deacon in the Catholic church so he will be doing our blessing. But at most weddings I have been to it has been a close family member.

@MDLS my father (as silly as he is) is very shy in public. I was just talking to my stepmom earlier that I need to ask dad if he's comfortable giving the welcome at the reception and whether or not he wants to do a father/daughter dance.

As far as the blessing, FH has a ton of preacher friends - the closest of which are clamoring for a role in the wedding. Our pastor from our home church is performing the ceremony. One of FH's friends will read scripture at the wedding and the other will give the blessing at the reception.

Who ever you want, we're not having a religious ceremony, but I will ask my grandpa to bless the food and what not, he has done it for every one of his grandkids weddings.
