Who married you?

Bri, on January 7, 2024 at 10:31 AM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 23
Hi yall! So I was wondering if anyone else has had a family member marry you. My oldest niece is super excited to get ordained and marry us, but is this weird? I mean I think it might have been my idea but like.. is it weird? Lmao

I don’t think it’s weird. My husband’s uncle got ordained and married us. Since neither of us are religious (and our family backgrounds are of two different religions), we knew we weren’t going to use any sort of religious officiant. Since we were already going the secular route, it seemed more personal to actually have someone who knew us rather than a complete stranger.

I 💯 want to do this. It would be so much more special and my fiance and I are also different religions, so it just makes sense. My FH’s brother is ordained but he has many siblings, so idk if my fiance will want to honor only one sibling in that way if he can’t honor them all.

As a backup, I’ve thought about asking my uncle to get ordained. This is sad and I hope not TMI, but most of my family didn’t speak for 2 decades over a fight (not involving me) that stemmed from a horrible miscommunication. In the past year, we have all reconnected and it’s such a blessing to have them back in my life, so this would mean so much to me if it ends up happening!

Not me, but my parents were married by my dad’s uncle and my mom’s uncle, both ministers, in a joint ceremony. I don’t think it’s weird.

I wasn’t there for that one, but I’ve seen other similar ones. The two ministers just share the parts of the ceremony between them — one does the blessing and the rings, the other the vows and the benediction, etc.

That's cool! Did you get ordained specifically to do her wedding, or were you already ordained from doing someone else's?

I got ordained because of my cousins wedding but I have no issues in marrying anyone else.

I don't think it's weird at all! I think it's awesome that it's even an option. My grandpa will be getting ordained to officiate my wedding Smiley smile

I asked how long ago her wedding was, not how long the wedding was. Sorry for any confusion!
