Who gets a corsage?

Andrea, on March 3, 2013 at 2:01 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 13

Who typically gets a corsage? I was thinking just parents and grandparents, which would be 11 total for me. Oh, and of course the groom and groomsmen, which would be 18 total. (Yikes!)

So, what do people typically do? I know godparents are sometimes thrown into the mix, but that wouldn't really make sense for us, since both FH and myself aren't close with our godparents at all.

What is the difference between button holes and corsages? I honestly never heard of button holes before-I had to google them!

Boutonnieres and button holes are what are pinned onto the guys lapel (pic 1)

corsages can be pin-on (pic 2) or worn on the wrist (pic 3)

    Ushers?!

Our GM and FH are not wearing bouts.. just grandfather-in-law, 2 fathers, and 1 usher (other usher is female)

For corsages we have.. 2 grandmothers, 2 mothers, and 1 female usher

Oh, yes, ushers, thanks! We actually don't have ushers (FH is walking his mom down, my brother is walking my mom down), but we do have readers and people handing out programs.

We have bouts for GM, both fathers, and 2 grandfathers. Corsages for both mother ands my grandmother.

You could do bouts/corsages for guestbook attendants, greeters, etc but I'm not convinced its necessary. My cousins are greeters and were strongly against corsages of any kind for them. They advocated we save the money.

I will do something for my mom and dad, his mom, and my 2 grandmothers. And then I would like to do one for my cousin because she is kind of going to be the DOC.

We did boutonnieres for DH, his brother (BM), both dads and then my brother as well who walked my mom down the aisle. (We had no other groomsmen or living grandparents.)

We opted against corsages as my MIL dislikes them and my mom didn't have a preference. Instead our florist recommended *small* handheld bouquets for our mothers, which they both really liked the idea of. They were great for photos and then they didn't have to worry about them at the reception.

We didn't have any other ushers or readers. Sometimes people will also get a boutonniere or corsage for their officiant as well I believe. We did not.

Look at a grocery store floral dept for your flowers. I know they do bouts and corsages. Much cheaper than the prices posted here. I know Michaels has them too as well as Hobby Lobby.

You should get a corsage for your Mother and future Mother-In-Law. Buttoniers for the Fathers and groomsmen...and flower bouquets for yourself and Bridesmaids. It's nice to get corsages for the Grandparents if they are still living..and I would stop right there.

Have your flowers done PROFESSIONALLY even if you have to cut pack on your budget . You won't have the time to make any flower arrangements, and it will show up on the quality and the expertise. Talk to your florist for ideas and your budget.

Our corsages: my birth mother, grandmother, FMIL, FH's 2 grandmothers, & DOC who is my "wedding mom"

Our boutonnieres: birth father, grandfather, FFIL, FH's grandfather & DOC husband

Check out grocery stores, they have pretty good prices on those.
