Who eats first?!

Christy, on May 8, 2012 at 5:15 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 17

How are you deciding which tables eat first? That is, if you're not having a plated/served dinner...

Basically, if you're having a buffet style how are you decide what tables go when? Obviously WP and immediate family first, but then who?

I have seen games played (Ie: answer a questions about the BM, whoever gets it right goes, or first person to bring an item of choice to the MC goes)...

I'm thinking about doing a Madlib, on one side fill in a list of 10 words, on the back side match the number with the blank (ie: word 1 goes in blank 1) and whichever table comes and reads theirs first goes next? Or I might do this to get us to kiss instead of glass clinking?!

Thoughts?! What are YOU doing?

We are just doing the wedding party first and then people can go up and get food, we aren't doing it table by table

Then everyone just went up when they felt like it. No tables were called. Worked out fine.

I don't even remember who fixed me and Mister's plates, but someone brought them to us, LOL

At all the weddings I have been to, noone has done anything creative. After the head table and family tables, usually the DJ would announce the first table and the last table. He would go back and forth like that.

    Your idea is pretty creative!

@Ednabug: How many people did you have at your wedding?! I feel like we will be served, as well as the WP, but I don't think I want all 120 of my guests rushing our food tables?! I think our caterers will need to be replenishing the food dishes in between guests?

I think a game will take too long & cause chaos. I think if you call them up by names or numbers that would work best.

No I don't, we have 120 people coming, and people can get food from both sides of the buffet table, I just figure that everyone ends up waiting the same amount of time anyways, so why not just have it like any other buffet would be.

We are going to do it with head table first, then immediate family tables right (closest to buffet) to left, then friends and other family tables right to left. [The way our reception area is set up the head table will be facing the other tables and there will be 3 rows of 4 tables which is why we chose the right to left]

WP will be served, our parents and pastor will be up front, they will go first and let the tables follow behind them and so forth.

Of course us, WP and parents. Our tables will be called out. Two at a time since our buffet has two sides to get people through quicker, once the first group is halfway through then they'll call for the next two tables. I think playing games would take to long. I just want people to get up there and get back to their tables to eat.

I've seen it done where the MC has the tables sing a song (the grooms or bride favorite decade) before they can go up and eat. So whoever sings first or if the DJ called your number you got to eat. It was pretty fun. I'm having plated but I thought it was cute.

We did wedding party then the parents' tables. After that, our caterer just released tables two at a time starting near the head table and working toward the back of the room.

Ya I just didn't want to have a big rush at the food tables, nor did I want people being snitty about who got to sit where and thus eat first? I don't want people at table 15 feeling less liked than table 3? Haha sounds ridiculous I know.
