Who do you most appreciate as things come together??

Monique, on July 21, 2019 at 1:30 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 22
I have discovered many things while in the planning process and as we get closer to the wedding I have found that there are many types of people. I have had a friend drop off the face of the earth and block me because she is not in my wedding, I have had people judge because we are not doing things their way, I have had people give both wanted and unwanted advice, and I have had people who I so much appreciate being in my life and in the planning process. The two people who I most appreciate at this point in time is my old boss and her husband. The place that I used To work was the best environment. We were all like family. Of course due to this we have stayed in contact even after I no longer worked there. We found out her husband is ordained and we have since asked him to be our officiant. We have started going out with them regularly to dinner and they are truly the most amazing people to have in our corner. They give us marriage advice, they listen to our rants and do not judge, they help us as we are moving on in the planning process, and they basically have become like family to my fh and I . I appreciate them and I am so thankful for them. Who is this person/or maybe are these people for you? Why do you appreciate them?

I'm so glad you've found those incredible people to lean on! I'm so thankful for my church allowing us to get married there for free. We also get to host the reception there! Venues can be so expensive, so I'm truly blessed to have this amazing venue!

My friend is a photographer. She's done weddings before and I was telling her my troubles with finding photography and videography for a good price because on average they're expensive and I'm on a budget. She normally charges the same price as what I've seen too. When I told her... She said "I'll do it all for you for free"

My best friend Marisol has been my biggest help and I could definitely not live without her. She is my bridesmaid(I have 4 total) and she by far has helped me plan away and helped me with my diy projects not because she feels like she has to, but wants to. I feel like we have each others back no matter what. It’s just nice to have that person who you can count on even if it’s just for a rant session.

The caveat is she no longer lived in the same state as me so I had to fly her over here but that was such a small cost compared to what she charges people for photo and video services

It's absolutely crazy all the opinions that come out of the wood work once you begin wedding planning! The ones I appreciate the most are my grandparents (they raised me) & my soon to be father in law - which completely shocked me.

My mom. She has always been there for me. And I’m this it’s no different! Helping keep me sane, make decisions, Paint the decor!, and a host of other stuff.

My Bff from childhood, has checked in, I’m horrible about calling people lately!, has come from Washington state to visit family and me! Has helped give ideas and calm me and my anger towards my MOH( I was going to ask friend, Jenny, who I’ve been friends with since we were 6- now 40! But given her location, WA vs VA, she asked not to be 😕)

The two lovelies who offered to step in should one of my girls not work out. And I still wanted to keep 4 bridesmaids.

My future MIL. She’s helped me plan the most and has had the least judgmental opinions about anything. She’s been very relaxed and up to do wedding stuff with me, she even went to pick out my dress with me! I feel like I can talk wedding with her and she doesn’t think like I’m being overbearing or annoying. She has also stood up for me on several occasions when people were trying to push their wedding ideas and what the wedding should be or comments on our budget.

What a nice story! That is very special and I am happy for you. Through this wedding planning process I realized my FH and I are on our own. Nobody asks us how it’s going, offers to help with anything or even offers to help pay. It’s just us doing it all. My FH has been great at helping me make decisions and my daughter helps me with a lot too but she is 13! So I appreciate them.

My MOH has been surprisingly involved in helping with centerpieces, dress shopping, she’s coming to my HMU trial to be my second opinion.
Everyone else, except my Dad, has been totally uninvolved, uninterested, and disappointing.

Two of my former bosses. They’ve been father figures to my FH who never had a dad. They always give him great man advice and they’re both just great role models(hard working, nice people). Since the wedding planning they’ve stepped up even further to give FH advice for a happy marriage, helped him pull together his outfit and showed him how to tie a tie. I’m grateful he has people like that to help him feel more like a groom. I know he looks up to both of them so much, they’re the kind of men he wants to be when he’s older.

One of them has been married for 20 years and just has the cutest relationship. His wife is the light of his life, he looks daydreamy when he talks about her. FH wants an old marriage like that.

I'm so thankful for my mom and sister helping to plan everything! My little sister and dad have been helpful as well but especially my mom and older sister. They planned her wedding two years ago so they were excited for another opportunity to plan another wedding!

It's always nice to have a support system at a time of major change such as wedding planning. I honestly could not be more grateful for our families and friends right now.

My parents live 5 minutes away so we're always calling on them for help. A few days ago we bought a new car and wanted my dad's opinion as he's a mechanic. Not only did he come meet us 20 miles away in rush hour traffic, but he also stopped by our house to feed the pets first.

The best man is FHs lifelong friend from elementary school. His family is dear to us, having accepted my FH as another son, but me as well the first time I joined them for the holidays years ago. This past Christmas, the best man's father made this beautiful toast to us and our upcoming nuptials.

I could go on... my MOH and bridesmaids planning my shower and bachelorette weekend, my FMIL and mom being there for me when I chose my dress.... everything has been going great and I can't wait for December to be here.

My future father in law hates weddings (has had two divorces from two awful women, not to mention hates my FH's mother lol) and he's such a quiet and private man, but the minute we got engaged he was involved with our wedding planning! He has helped us out SOOO much and you can just tell how excited he is for his only child to get married (:
