Who did you invite to your final fitting?

Rosie, on August 18, 2021 at 9:49 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 22

SO! I am curious who you invited to your final dress fitting, and why!

My dress is currently stuck at my alteration lady's house, and neither of us can get to each other. Our wedding has bene postponed another 6 months, so it's not quite as urgent any more, but I am still thinking about how I might have had my final fitting by now!

My sister brought her bridesmaids to her final fitting, but the alterations lady also altered our dresses, plus at that fitting we also were shown how to bustle her dress (and took a video for later), and as we were the ones who were helping her on the day, it made the most sense.

Did you take someone? Did you wish you'd taken more people? Less? Different?

My mom, mother in law, and maid of honor came with me for my final fitting. Really, my maid of honor was the only person who needed to be there, as she was shown how to bustle my dress, but my mom and mother in law wanted to come, so I invited them along lol.

Aww, that's very sweet. My mum lives a bit too far away to come for the fitting, so I'd feel a bit bad inviting my mother in law, otherwise I'd invite both if they wanted to come!

My mama and her sister (my aunt!). Highly recommend bringing more than one person so you are guaranteed to have someone who can remember how to do the bustle

Yes, exactly what I was thinking myself, and why I was glad we recorded my sister's instructions! I'm sure we still got it wrong, if I'm honest, but we were super rushed and it was over 40 degrees C (107 F ish) and hadn't really had any water so I think it's understandable. I plan to make sure we have proper time, in a separate room.

So far I’ve gone to one fitting alone, my second fitting is Friday and doing that alone. For my final fitting I was hoping to bring my sister since we were planning on her being in town for my final fitting and bachelorette party but it doesn’t seem like it’s going to work out. And probably no bachelorette party. She’s my only bridal party member and I don’t have any family in town so I’m pretty stumped. I don’t really have any girlfriends to invite and my mother in law and I don’t have that type of relationship and she isn’t the most helpful person. It’s been weighing on pretty heavy lately and I just hoping the ladies at the boutique will take pictures and a video of how it’s done. I never thought something like this would upset me but it sucks not having anyone to share these moments with. It’s only 5 points and two layers of fabric so hopefully it won’t be too difficult.

I'm sorry it's weighing on you, I know exactly what you mean - I was given a call about picking up my dress at a time when my sister was focussing on her own wedding so I didn't feel I could ask her, and I didn't feel comfortable asking my MIL or SIL to come so last minute, and all my friends work on the weekends, so I had no one to invite. I did get a bit teary eyed, since I was quite nervous in case I didn't like it when I picked it up. But, the staff were so lovely, and they definitely took lots of photos for me. Could you ask your sister/mum/whoever to join on zoom/facetime?

I’m in an oddball situation. My future mother in law altered my wedding dress at her house and is very very covid conscious. So it’s been just me and her during fittings—she’ll teach my bridesmaids to do the bustle the day of— and I guess my mom/bridesmaids will see the dress at the wedding!

Oh wow, that's quite lovely! my grandmother in law (is that a thing?) is embroidering our initials and our date on a handkerchief for me to carry as my something blue, which is really special - having an in-law do the dress itself is super meaningful!

Good Morning! The less the better. I brought my aunt and had her video how to bustle which then I have to my coordinator to do for me at the reception. It was great quick easy out of there.
Plus in this Covid these bridalSalons or private dress makers don’t want too many people in their establishments.

No one. I didn’t really see the point and it was the middle of the work day so I didn’t want to burden anyone just to make sure my dress was totally done. Retrospectively I guess it would’ve been helpful to have someone learn how to do the bustle, but I don’t know how much difference that would have actually made. I did get a video of the seamstress showing how to do the bustle but no one ever actually watched the whole way through 🤣🤦🏻‍♀️

I only brought my mother. She flew here for the weekend and learned to bustle my dress. Even though she didn’t end up bustling it, my DOC did it and I wish I would have let my mother do it. Because it didn’t come out quite as it should have.

Ha, I took my groom and the wedding was the next day. It was just practical as we were running errands, and I was rather lonely being by myself for 5 other fittings (2 dresses). He was able to take short videos of how to hook the detachable train and bustle, but, I still needed another two ladies to assist him the day of anyway. He was still surprised with the full reveal though!

I brought my friend who just got married in July. Then we went to lunch! I’ve known her fiancé since he was 18. I think of them both as my kids! I love them both! It was a great day out.

I only took one of my bridesmaids. Just because that’s the only option I have haha. All of my bridesmaids live in different states and the only one available was the one living in the same state / city as where the wedding was going to be.

Only my sister (who is a bridesmaid) came to my final fitting.

My mom works in health care so it's hard for her to just take off to come (plus she lives 2 hours away so it would be quite the drive to do before or after work). My other bridesmaids either had to work (one works in healthcare and the other works with special needs students) and the other one and my MOH live in Wisconsin (I live in Minnesota). My MIL (who I don't have that much of a relationship with) lives in Wisconsin and I wouldn't have felt comfortable with her there.

My sister lives with us so it was easy to have her come with and she filmed the bustling and how to lace the corset so that my mom will be able to help (my mom will be more likely to tie the corset tight enough as my sister was worried about hurting me Smiley xd ).

All in all, it was nice to just have her and spend extra time with her (getting Caribou beforehand and the shop was busy so we were sitting around for a good while).

I went to my final fitting solo. I definitely would have taken my mom but with her in another state and unable to drive/no money for travel, she basically missed everything wedding related. It sucks but at least she found a way to make it to the actual wedding.

I've only brought my mom's to my fittings. I've considered bringing my MOH but I want to do a first look with my girls so I voted against it. I'll be taking a video for the bustle.

It is honestly so comforting that you said "I'm sure we still got it wrong," because that is exactly how I feel!! We will figure it out on the day of our weddings though. We will have plenty of lovely people to help us Smiley smile
