Which Wedding Scenario is Better??

Anne, on December 31, 2016 at 2:40 PM Posted in Planning 0 35

Now that the new year is upon us, FH is finally able to talk wedding and give opinions. We are now torn between 2 scenarios for our expected 40-50 wedding guests.

I would like for you to think about this from guests' perspective and as bride/groom.

1. Have the wedding at a chapel and then go back to the rental cabin for the reception and have catered BBQ supper along with wine/beer and conversations that could last into the night with no set ending time. No speeches/dancing/bouquet toss. There will be cake cutting as the only wedding tradition. The rest will be cocktail party environment because that's the tone of our guests and us.

2. Have the wedding AND reception at a brewery with a set start and stop time for the party. No speeches/dancing..For both scenarios the wedding is at 5:30pm.

With scenario 2. we don't have to worry about parking and hiring a bartender but we lose the comfort/casual ease of guests coming and going at their own pace.

#1 has been our plan since July.

I like 2 but 2 includes dinner also right? Did I miss that?

#1 is damn near the exact thing we are doing! For our group of guests this plan will work. And we also like having the space for people to sleep after drinking.

I prefer #2. As a guest, I would be more comfortable with a pre-determined beginning and end time.

Team brewery! I'd be happier with a definite timeframe.

Yes, def dinner catered by the brewery. I have already rented the cabin and I rented large enough to accommodate all the guests, but I am thinking all at one place would be better now and then the VIPs would come back to the cabin to hang out. We are going to Gatlinburg on MLK weekend to tour possibilities and finalize the ceremony site.

The brewery thing would also include a tour and tasting.

The brewery does sound fun though. Ours is largely due to do saving money.

#2 because of the time frame. I would be annoyed at guests who like to stay wayyyy too long than normal.

We got married and had our reception at a wine bar, so I'm team brewery! You can always have an after party if you guys want to keep the celebration going.

#2. You could also have people come back to the cabin for an after party if that's what you want.

I prefer #2. Y'all could always go back to the rental cabin as the after party type thing.

Chaos-same here. We wanted to save money. We were planning to have wedding/reception at the residence but I lost my original venue (a rental estate home) due to date change so now we are just planning reception at a large cabin because there is not really a good place to have the ceremony. That's where the chapel idea came in but after talking about it more, logistically it might make more sense to have the whole thing away from the cabin.

Still undecided. Parking is an issue with the cabin so we will need to pay for transportation and we are hiring a server for the alcohol so that combined it about $600-$800. We could use that toward food/booze Smiley smile

The thing that sounds appealing about number 2 is that you won't have to do anything. They will take care of the drinks and food and chairs and tablessed. It's like a one stop shop and it makes it less stressful.
