which direction are you standing

mrsrobinvalentine, on March 26, 2013 at 1:33 PM Posted in Planning 0 17

I saw on 4 weddings, where the officiant was facing the bride & groom with his back towards the seated guest. Saw the guests were able to see the bride & groom faces; & not their backs. So I ask you, which direction are you going to pick?

We are going to do the traditional way. We're getting married outside with no stage or anything, so the pastor would end up hiding us even more if he were between us and the guests! Especially since I'm 5'5, and FH is 5'7! We are little people haha!

Also, I plan on us facing each other the entire time, not toward the pastor. So I'm not too worried about our backs being to our guests.

Our officiant faced our guests -- had we done it the other way around, our guests wouldn't have been able to see us, as the officiant is a bit larger and taller than both of us. Still, our guests could see our faces for the most part (one side could see me better, the other side saw H better.)

And yes, like Trena, we faced each other, not the officiant.

I actually can't see how flipping would allow you to see the bride and groom better at all... I'm going to have to go Google for a picture of this.

Our officiant is going to face our guest and we are going to face each other so both the officiant and the guest see us from the side

Catholic wedding so guests will be looking at our backs or profiles, until we turn around after we are pronounced Mr and Mrs.

Our officiant is facing the guests, but we are facing each other in front of him, so at least guests will see profile.

Our officiant actually suggested to us that we do it that way...as the one in Four Weddings. I'm not sure about it though.

We plan on facing each other, with my FH’s aunt (who is marrying us) facing towards the guests. We aren’t setting brides/grooms sides either as we plan to put up a sign somewhere that says “As two become one, we ask you to pick a seat, not a side”.

Of course our families will have priority seating... We are doing something a little different in seating them though—instead of having my family sit on “my side” behind me looking at my back, they will be on the opposite side so they can see me and my FH’s fam will be opposite him so they can see his face during the ceremony. It was a suggestion made by my mom because when she went to my cousin’s wedding this summer, she only saw the groom’s face, and as the bride’s aunt, she wanted to see her! I really like the idea of being able to look over to my parents and immediate family during the ceremony too Smiley smile

Our pastor stood facing the guests and we were facing each other for most of the ceremony so the guests were able to see us. The only thing we did different is that I stood on the right with hubby on the left which is reversed from the traditional because I see better with my left eye (plus that's the side I photograph best with). In almost all of our wedding pictures taken during the ceremony you can see the 3 of us (pastor and us) and not just our backs.

I would be concerned that it would be harder to hear if the officiant is not facing the audience. Like the basic rule of stage...dont turn your back on your audience lol.

So we will do it the traditional way. Yay one thing we are doing thats traditional! lol

I'm guessing the guests will see us from the side but I hate my profile on the right side. Lol

@FinallyDoingIt - stand on the other side then! No reason you HAVE to stand on one particular side. I've seen weddings done both ways, so I don't think it's that big of a deal. Smiley smile

That would be awesome. I've only seen them on one side. That makes me feel so much better. Lol
