Do you know what is the best registry if you are planning to return your gifts to pay for the expensive wedding?

Thanks!!! We told our family and friends (they will spread out the word). Hopefully most of them will give us money… ;-)

We also opened a small registry at Beth Bath and beyond. Most of the items we can fit them in our place and if they don’t fit we’ll store them at my future Mother in law house. I believe this will keep everybody happy.

I currently work at Bed Bath and Beyond and they do NOT like to give cash for registry returns. And I am sure most other stores with registry programs are the same way. If you don't want a gift from a certain store, don't register there. I would just politely spread the word through family or a close friend that you would prefer cash. I think that would be much nicer than pretending you want gifts and then returning them for cash later. Plus what do you say when that wedding guest is at your house a year later and notices thier gift is nowhere to be found in your house? Then you have to explain, and if I were the wedding guest I would definitely be offended. Think about it from a wedding guest's point of view.

I didn't register at stores because my Fh and I have been living together for the last 6 years and well we have everything we need already, we even have duplicates of stuff. I had a few close friends and family members spread the word that we just don't have room for more stuff, so if people want to help they can contribute to a honeymoon or to help us put a down payment on a place.

I suggest uponourstar.com, It's like a honeyfund registry but you can register for anything and everything, "House Repairs" "Reno of Bathroom" "New Bedding" and you just select a monetary amount, not the actual Item, that way guest get an idea of what you're using the money for in home reno's, repiars, etc, You can even do a honeymoon, and honeymoon activities, and make your own 'things; to contribute money towards, and word of mouth always works! I don't suggest registering for stuff then trying to return it for money. What heppens when Aunt Adalaine comes over and asks why the toaster you have is 10 millioons years old and not the one she got you for the wedding which was a bagle/slicved bread, 4 slice stainless steel toaster

    Hi Paula,

Yes... i agree with some of the above. You should just let family and close friends spread the word that you want monetary gifts only. I went to a wedding a few months ago and on the invite she wrote "monetary gifts only please" maybe that's something you'd consider doing? It's such a hassle to get gifts that you don't want and have to return it not knowing if you could get cash back.

To be honest, I'd be pissed if someone returned the gift I went out and got them for cash. I wouldn't have wasted my time going to get something from the registry if I knew it would be returned. If you don't want a bunch of registry stuff, spread the word you want money but please don't register for a bunch of bogus stuff, so you can return it.

Please do NOT write "monetary gifts preferred or only" on your invite or on your website.

Spread the word to family, close friends, and wedding party and have them spread the word.

    Have a honeymoon fund link.

You can register at Target because even if you get credit, then you will be buying something from them in the future.

    Or try crate and barrel.

Why don't you make an online registry? Use a site like www.ourwishingwell.com that lets you accept cash payments for anything you are saving towards. I'm with many of the PP's, I would be PISSED if someone registered for something and then returned it for the cash.

Paula D.... Jesse D. by just briefly looking at Jesse D's post I can tell you he's right.

Think about it...You have a christmas Party or B-Day party or something a year down the road.. and something, someone gave you isn't in your house....ALL OF A SUDDEN YOUR STUCK EXPLAINING WHY/WHAT HAPPENED TO THE GIFT THEY GAVE YOU....It's one thing if its a set of silverware or glasses.....but, that EXPENSIVE ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM THAT PROBABLY WOULD PAY THE RENT FOR A YEAR.......HMMMMMmmmmmm someone will ask where it is..............!!!!!!!!!! JUST SAYING...

So funny story on the whole returning wedding gifts thing...FH and I were at BBB starting on our registry and were looking at canisters, so I opened the box to see the canisters in the set set...and I found a wedding card, signed with a very nice note about how happy the giver was for the couple and how much they loved the woman and were thrilled she had found such a nice man and how they were looking forward to getting to spend time with them...yeah, it was very sweet...and in the box when the gift was returned!

Why not just register for a honey fund?
