Where do you buy the alcohol for your bar?

HISballerina, on November 27, 2013 at 9:21 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 22

Our venue allows us to supply the alcohol. We're thinking just beer and wine but I'm a bargain shopper and want a really great deal. I was thinking Sam's but if there is a company that is better please help a girl out! Smiley smile

We're lucky because we can buy it on base and it's always cheaper. But if we didn't have that option, then Costco. I believe their brand of vodka is the same as grey goose. I've been told that many times.

We are doing a stock the bar party to get some of it first. We are doing liquor too, so I think I will go to a large liquor store that is privately owned and has better deals than Greene's, etc. Sam's would probably be a great option...but definitely try to convince someone to host a stock the bar for you!!

You can try a discount beverage store too, sometimes you can get an almost wholesale price.

How many people are you having at your wedding, and how much do you plan on getting?

You may be able to negotiate with your local liquor store when buying in bulk, especially wine. You can probably get 10% off for each case of wine.

    If you just asked.

I like this thread - great for ideas! We're having a friend brew two kegs of homemade beer, but we have to buy wine - for some reason Sam's and Costco never popped in my mind. Thanks!

Thanks everyone! I forgot that we can go on base to get a good deal! Thank you Erika!

I also forgot about Trader Joes, Future Mrs. P... This is great.

We're hoping for 150 or less but even less than that will be drinking... I think we'll come out ok but now it's on to choosing the wine. I'm a cheap drunk and I'm perfectly content with my arbor mist lol... trashy but whatevs.... I love it and it loves me....

Any suggestions on good wine that everyone will enjoy? No dry wine... I like sweet stuff! lol

You can only buy liquor in the state stores in PA. It still seems so funny to me to buy it at a Costco or a Sams.

Local liquor stores around me provide alcohol on a consignment basis. You buy it from them, usually at a small discount, and then they'll buy back any unopened bottles or cases from you after the wedding is over!

Ashley, you have no idea. The first time I saw liquor in a grocery store, I couldn't believe my eyes. Though, things are getting a bit better. Now you can get liquor at some stores on Sunday, that passed a couple years ago. What you still can not do: buy beer at the same store as liquor. Buy less than a case at a beer store. If you want a 6 or 12 pack, you have to go to a bar that sells them. You can't buy a case at a bar. They have a limit of selling 192 ounces at a time. So if you don't have a beer store open on Sundays, you would have to leave the store and go back in to purchase more.

They had for a very short time, wine kiosks in some grocery stores. They were hard to use. You had to use your drivers license and a card and they didn't work half the time. The whole thing was awful.

We have ABC stores for our liquor and you can't buy beer and liquor at the same place... it's very frustrating. I remember visiting family and seeing liquor at a grocery store and was floored! hahhaha. I need eggs, milk, cheetos, an apple and some Jack Daniels... ok, I'm set! lol

Im doing the same thing for my wedding so I guess i should get on a hunt for some resonable prices liquor. Do your venue require for you to have a ABC Banquet one day license? I know my venue does here in Virginia so I have to apply for that as well.

No problem! I know the kegs were cheaper there too. We spent about $300 on liquor and beer for my bday party this past August for about 100 people. We did run out of beer though. Juice and ice and all that was separate. Oh and the cashier had a bunch of coupons that she let us use. I went pricing around at bevmo, SAMs, and Costco. The base was cheaper by a lot! As in the HUGE bottle of patron was almost $20 cheaper on base!!
