Where did you register for lawn mowers and snow blowers?

We decided to do majority of our wedding registry at BBY. The only problem is they don't sell gas lawn mower or gas snow blowers. Did did everyone else registry for these items?

@livelybride-i've seen people register for appliances before and I never thought twice about it. Just because someone registers for items doesn't mean you have to buy it. Like I said, not trying to be a pain in the ass but I just don't see how some items are ok to register for and some items not.

    Menards.

I registered there for other items, and I believe they have lawn mowers and snow blowers.

    There.

You can register for ANYTHING. Really. I mean, no one has to buy you the things you register for. It's just a wishlist. It's nice to register for lots of different price points so people have choices.

I registered for a washer and dryer at Sears....but as far as a lawn mower and Snow Blower, Home Depot has better products than Sears (this is completely objective, of course). One thing to note about Home Depot....not all store have registries. The Home Depot's that do have registries, you guests will have to go to the store that you opened the registry with, have them print it off, and then they can purchase it. Due to this limitation, that is why I went with Sears.

Okay, so now I'm thinking about it and wondering, what is the difference between getting a top of the line Dyson for a little less than $400 or a snow blower for $400? Oh, and Sabrina, this has nothing to do with what you put on your registry. You're going to do what you're going to do -- and you didn't ask for opinions, just suggestions on where to register for these items So, that's a closed issue. I'm just wondering why some of us found it a little odd to register for these items.

Here's my best guess. Wedding gifts are generally perceived as items that will help the couple establish a home -- whether that home is an apartment or a house. Could they get by with a set of cheap pots and pans from Walmart? Sure. But it would be really nice to have a set from Cuisinart or Circulon. It's a great wedding gift, and something every couple will use day in and day out. A set of 800 - 1000 thread count sheets will make crawling into bed a luxury, although you can spend a lot less on lower thread counts. Again, a great a gift. A full service of china is an extravagance, and you don't need it -- but it's nice to have, and you'll have it for decades. The work horse items like expensive vacuums or mixmasters? They are items that are found inside the home. I guess what makes people think twice about lawnmowers and snow blowers is that they are typically more male oriented, outside the walls of the home items. I guess most of us are more geared toward giving gifts that are in the home goods department as opposed to the department that sell items for property maintenance. No judgement, just a interesting thought.

Sabrina, certain gifts are more traditional than others and some are more "in your face" - snow blower and lawn mower are not traditionally found on registries. I think that's the difference?

It's difficult to understand or verbalize exactly why some gifts are appropriate on a registry and some aren't but..some things are better left off the registry.

ETA: Centerpiece just verbalized (wrote) what I couldn't. Well said.

@centerpiece-yes! I'm registering for those items and mostly hoping for the snow blower because we share all of the house chores inside and out and shoveling snow at below negative degrees is no fun.

I just don't personally feel certain items are more traditional or appropriate to register for than others.

I will say I don't think this is any where as close as the "Let me borrow a dress cuz I'm trying to get my murdering mother out for my wedding" thread. That woman was BAT SHIT!

I do think its crazy to say those are a no no and are "big ticket items" when something of the same price that is meant for the home would be okay. I think Centerpiece said it perfectly.

@Sabrina, registry aside, in all seriousness, if this is practical for the size of your property, you should totally get a rider mower that you can get different attachments for (baggers, etc.). For example, my FH has a Husqvarna mower, and he also bought the snowblower attachment for the front rather than getting a totally separate piece of equipment. It was a pain to assemble, but it works great--we just switch out the mower deck with the snowblower in the spring/fall and we're good to go for the season.

Lol, i guess no one understood what I was trying to say.

I was saying that its TOTALLY appropriate to put these things on your register. What's not appropriate, in my opinion, is something that costs that much for NO REASON, like a $500 china set, or a $500 comforter set. Those things don't cost that much. However, as a big piece of quality machinery, it WILL cost that much, so it's cool.

I totally support putting these things on the registry.

And the fact that snowblowers and lawnmowers are more masculine is hilarious to me, as I do both those chores around the house, and they are WAYYYYYY more useful than a goddamned dish.

Yeah, I just re-read my post, it didn't read well or make sense.

I'm blown away (no pun inteeeeended) by how many people think this in inappropriate, but sixty sets of towels is cool.

I registered for a meat grinder, a grill, a smoker, a patio umbrella, and frankly if we didn't already own a ride-on mower, I'd have registered for a mower too. I also registered for gardening equiptment - all of this will be used way more than that stupid panini press everyone has sitting in their kitchen.

My Fh's cousin registered at Sears for items like a gas generator($400), drills, saw, air compressor etc. You could do the same. I am not sure they would have snow blowers in the store around the time of your shower, but maybe they are a year around thing. I think they are plenty appropriate to register. Some people are very generous or will go in together on a gift. You are talking push mower right, not a rider?

I love my panini press and have never mowed a lawn in my life - I am not the proper audience for some registries.

@emily- The yard where I live or may live are pretty decent sized but not big enough for a riding machine (although that would be so awesome!!!) If I can find a machine that will do both I will be in heaven.

@m-im really sorry, i totally read your comment wrong Smiley sad

I honestly wish I would have thought of registering for a snow blower. I knew HD had a wedding registry, but I couldn't think of anything I wanted from there.

And, seriously, I've seen $400 mixers so many wedding registries....for people that don't even BAKE or cook a lot. Why is a snow blower/lawn mower taboo? It's for the house. And it will get used!

As someone living in MI, I don't even bat an eye at this request on the registry. Snow blower is really kind of a necessity depending on where you live.

.......is it seriously an argument as to whar type of household good is appropriate? My lanta.

Put those babies on your registry. Sometimes, multiple family members like to go in on big gifts. It is perfectly fine, as long as you have a variety of price points.

I didn't get my $400 Roomba. So excited to use my 20% off, though!!

I firmly believe that every child should learn how to mow a lawn.

Granted, I have a ride on with a cupholder....

Haha I never learned how, so I just wing it and drives FH crazy because there's those tiny thin lines with tall ass grass where I missed all over the yard when he's out of town for work!

Thanks everyone! I didn't want to start an argument just asking for ideas. We do plan on registering for everything inside and out for our home. Believe me, if you have to shovel 3-8 inches of snow in below 0 weather every year and almost throw out your back, the snow blower would be the first thing you register for he he

@emmy, we want a panini grill so bad too
