Where did you register for lawn mowers and snow blowers?

bina1015, on April 9, 2015 at 12:22 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 65

We decided to do majority of our wedding registry at BBY. The only problem is they don't sell gas lawn mower or gas snow blowers. Did did everyone else registry for these items?

It would never occur to me to register for lawn mowers or snow blowers (although in my part of the country, a snow blower is a pretty sweet thing to have in the garage). What I would do is begin searching for the store that sells them for the least amount of money. I want to say Walmart because it seems they always undercut everyone on their pricing (whether it's a votive candle, an engagement ring, a crock pot, or a snow blower).

@mrspope- I didn't either at first but heard other people I know that did. I figured I will register and if it's purchased it a bonus for us a. My mom and aunts said to register for those items and a grill. My aunts tend to buy bigger items together. When my cousin got married, my mom and aunt bought him a grill. And other aunts bought fine china, patio furniture, vacuums, etc. They let friend and cousins buy the smaller and more affordable items.

If you already know your mom/aunts will be the ones buying it, why not just let them know which ones you like, rather than starting another registry?

My parents bought us a grill for our wedding, but they knew ours had broken, my husband liked grilling, and we were looking at new ones. So we just picked one out. I think it ended up that we bought it and they paid us back since we were in the store with the one we wanted, but, might just be easier to do it that way and save the hassle. Let's be honest...no one but your parents/relatives will be purchasing a lawn mower or snow blower for you!

This doesn't seem like the most appropriate wedding registry item. I'll second what @stephanie said, discuss it with your parents rathen than creating a registry with the sole purpose of having a lawn mower on it.

I think I agree with Stephanie. I just checked the price of a decent snow blower. They're over $400. I think it's a long shot.

@stephanie, emmy, centerpiece- Thanks for your opinions but I will still register for these items. When I asked my friends and cousins they didn't think it was out of the normal to register for those items.

@mrs.pope- I thought the same about prices for certain items and my consultant at bby told me I would be surprised on how many high priced items are bought for wedding registries. We decided to register for high end, middle end, and low end prices for all of our items since we are having about 80-85 guests at our shower.

What about Amazon? We registered for some non-traditional things there that weren't available at our other stores.

I didn't register for those items, but Sears, Home Depot, or Walmart are probably your best bets!

I have an Amazon registry and we considered registering for a grill. Only problem is that the shipping on such large things can be astronomical.

As far as I know, Home Depot does not do a registry. They did (and maybe still do) in-store registries, but you have to physically go in to the exact same store where the couple registered. When we asked at ours they had no idea what I was talking about, but a manager remembered vaguely something about this process. We decided to drop it.

I wouldn't side eye a lawn mower or a snow blower, at least not as much as a Playstation or something like that. I registered for a $450 vacuum so I don't see why a lawn mower is any different. At least it's something practical for the home! But I do agree with Emmy--don't set up a registry JUST for this. It would look weird.

@lori-thanks, I wouldn't just set up a registry for those items. I was trying to find a store where I could register for those items and others.

I've seen registers with candy, video games, pet stuff and clothes on it before. Everyone has their own ideas on what to register for lol.

We didn't because we have all those items....but you could always create an Amazon registry with those kinds of things.

I didn't realize that people registered for those types of items. They seem pretty big ticket to me, but that's just my opinion.

I have seen people registering for these items before. They are household maintenence items. How is it different from registering for a KitchenAid stand mixer, Vitamix, a Roomba, or $400+ Calphalon pots and pans? It's not like it's a Playstation.

Try Sears, I believe they do a registry.
