When you're the same height as your Fh... shoes?

ThatGirl, on January 21, 2018 at 3:24 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 23

FH and I are within an inch of each other's height - if not closer... yesterday when BM dress shopping and talking about shoes it came up that if we all wear heels, all but one of us will be inches taller than FH, which will not make for the most awesome look in photos ... I don't want to necessarily wear stilettos all night but am a bit worried that flats or sparkly sneakers will make us look too casual ... and I feel like I stand a little taller and look a little leaner in even a small heal... and am worried about how I will look without a heel... we'll all be in floor length dresses so maybe it doesn't matter?

I want US to look good, but I also want to feel like I look good...

Need some insights!

I’m wearing flats! There are plenty of gorgeous flats out there. FH is only about an inch taller so I’m in the same boat. I was thinking a little heel for the ceremony but then my dress would be too long when I changed to flats so flats all the way! You’re going to look beautiful and either way. Do what makes you comfortable

I'm taller than my husband and most of his family. I dislike towering over others, so I designed sandals on ShoesofPrey.com.

Same boat. FH and I are the same height barefoot (or I might even be slightly taller, but don’t tell him that). I wanted something formal looking but didn’t want heels since I don’t want to be taller than he is in photos. I got some pretty flats and am calling it a day. There are a ton of pretty options out there for flats that aren’t casual and are maybe even nicer looking than a basic pump. If you’re all in floor length dresses, your girls might even thank you for not requiring them to wear heels all day.

Everyone who is close to the two of you already knows your heights. Your photographer will know how to pose the whole wedding party.

Maybe some day we'll get to a point where we don't concern ourselves with irrelevant details like a person's height, and simply accept people for who they are.

I’m taller than FH by 2-3 inches and will be wearing flats (plus comfort!). Haven’t decided about BP yet.

FH is only slightly taller than I am so I will wear a very short heel. I will probably be about his height, maybe a little taller but I don't see the issue!

I don’t even understand why this is an issue. So you’re a little taller. So what?

I'm taller by about 3 inches, if I had to guess. I treated myself to a paid of Jimmy Choo flats. Honestly, I knew I wouldn't last in heels for the day, and said forget this, I'm going to be comfy.

You can definitely find beautiful, formal flats for all of you. Comfort is a huge, added bonus for me, but I also didn’t feel like towering over my friends in 4inch heels (and I don’t like heels lower than that on me). Do what makes you feel good/happy.

I never understood why height mattered at all. It’s not something you can change, you love him no matter what, wear whatever shoes you want. It’s superficial.

I'm right at the same height as my fiance (look taller because his posture SUCKS) and I just bought some navy flats to match our wedding colors. I quit wearing heels when I started working in an office because I'm kind of tall and the desk hit my legs at a weird height and I'm pretty sure I haven't worn a heel all day since the birth of my second child. I'd kill myself trying to juggle heels and a ball gown.

I completely understand! I’m stuck trying to find shoes as well! Definitely thinking about simply going with detailed flats, or maybe even some small open toed 1/2 inch wedges. It can still look elegant or wedding appropriate if you find some that fit your style Smiley smile. And also, to the people that act like your feelings on not wanting to be taller are odd or silly, don’t mind them. It’s YOUR feelings, and for people to invalidate them, when everyone is a unique individual with different thoughts and emotions, is just rude in my opinion. If being taller doesn’t make YOU feel Beautiful then it’s perfectly okay to want to not wear heels. This day is about you feeling beautiful and happy. And if being taller makes you not feel that way, that’s a very valid emotion. And not at all superficial. Do what makes you feel the best ❤️❤️

If you have a long dress, no one will see your shoes so dont worry about looking too casual.

I wore 3" heels for the ceremony and 75% of the reception, and went barefoot for the remainder of the night. Your dress will drag on the floor some if you switch out of heels, but I'm not planning to ever wear it again so I wasn't too worried about ruining it....

H and I both have couples in our families where the woman is nearly a head taller than the man, so we are used to this. It's not the case for us, as I'm super short (5'2ish) and he is normal height (5'9ish), but no one in either of our circles would think it weird if it were different.

All but one member of the wedding party is taller than both of us, and FI is about 2-3 inches taller than me. I just ordered some 2.5 in kitten heels (should arrive today!) and told the bridesmaids to wear whatever (wedding appropriate) nude shoes they want. *shrug*

Thanks!!! I generally don’t care if I’m a bit taller than FH, even in photos, but I’m not petite and don’t want to look like an Amazon on our wedding day next to him either!!! And I know our friends and family know how tall we are or aren’t, lol but it’s not about them, it’s about the photo that will hang on my mantle for the rest of my life 😉 I suppose if I was Nicole Kidman I Might have bigger issues in life than being tall and lovely but I’m just me, lol I believe everyone means well tho.

I love heels and could never imagine getting married without them. If you feel better in a small heel, wear a small heel. Let your photographer know you will be looking to them for direction and posing.

Don't forget that men's shoes have a heel, so FH will be a little taller. My DH and I are basically the same height. I plan to wear a dancing shoe with a 1" - 1 1/2" heel. I have a black pair now that I wear for formal events such as weddings. They are extremely comfortable and stylish at the same time. When DH wears his dress shoes, we are still the same height.
