When you can't have a father/daughter dance...

Melissa, on June 21, 2016 at 11:17 PM Posted in Planning 0 10

I'm getting married July 22, 2017. My father will be gone 9 years at that point. My 2 amazing sons will be the ones to walk me down the aisle. However, the one hang up I still have is the traditional father/daughter dance. I'm looking for some interesting alternatives that you guys may have. I'm already planning on doing a "family" dance at our reception that includes all of our kids (5 total) and us. Just wondering if anyone has done, or seen, anything unique in place of a father/daughter dance! Thanks!

You can dance with a brother (if you have one??) You can pick a song that would fit with your sons and switch son half way through.

Maybe you can dance with your sons to a song your father liked? One of my friends lost her dad right before she got engaged. She danced with her mom while a slideshow of pics of her and her dad looped in the background.

I danced with my mother. My father passed away 8 years ago... I don't actually get along with my mother, so I really wish I hadn't danced with her, but if you're already doing a family dance, I'd skip the alternative father/daughter dance. As a guest, I don't want to spend an hour watching people dance. I want food and booze.

I'm not dancing with my father at all. And he's alive. Just skipping it. I don't see a point honestly.

There was a neat video of a girl dancing with her brothers, grandpa, and close uncle. They all just kind of cut in for the one song. So maybe pick some guys that have played a big role in your life if they would consider doing you the honor of dancing for that

I'm getting married this year and my father will be gone now for 2 years and I'm still doing the father/daughter dance. My twist is i am going to have all the fathers in the room to dance with their daughters no mater how young they are. This way at some point in that daughters life they danced with their father at a wedding. I have a feeling it's going to be a big sob fest for me. But I couldn't think of a better way to honor my father.

My dad passed away when I was 14. At our wedding, the hubs danced with his mom while I danced with mine.

@Amandab....great idea! However I'd find someone special to me too to share the experience. My Dad passes when u was 10. For my 1st wedding u had my Godfather. My 2ns wedding we didn't have it at all. Honestly I didn't miss it the 2nd time around.

@Amanda that is amazing!!! I absolutely LOVE that idea!!! I'm not one that has to stay with tradition, nothing about our wedding is really overly traditional, but I also know I want to do something to honor him for me.
