When to send save the dates- June 2017 wedding

FutureMrsBowen, on September 24, 2016 at 10:19 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 21

Hello everyone! First time poster, long time lurker Smiley smile I apologize in advance, since there are many similar threads and Google already gave me an answer on this (I just want some opinions!!!) My wedding is June 10th, 2017 and I ordered my save the date cards to take advantage of a great coupon from Minted... my question is- when the heck do I send them out!? About half of our guests will be OOT guests (some driving, some flying), and I think almost everyone already knows the date. I was thinking our invitations will go out mid-March (RSVP by May 10th) and that our STDs should go out in the beginning of November.. Is this crazy? I don't want them to get lost in the holiday card shuffle of December, and everyone is so excited so I do want to get them out kind of soon. Thanks in advance for any advice, especially from fellow June 2017 brides! Smiley smile

If I remember correctly, it's about 4-6 months before the wedding. So pretty soon! Not sure what to say about the holiday rush, we don't get that much in the mail during the holidays but every social circle is different.

We sent ours early, 10 months out. Just make sure your guest list is 100% set before you send them out.

STDs go out 6-8 months before the wedding date. November sounds like perfect timing!

My date is two weeks after yours! Literally all but 8 of our guests are WAY out of town and we thought they deserved plenty of notice, so we'll be sending ours in a couple of weeks once we get them all addressed Smiley smile

Hi date twin! We just took our engagement photos so I'm going to use some of those for STD's. Once we get them back, which my photographer said will be about a week, I plan on ordering my STD's and mailing them out by the end of October/early November. Our guest list is firmed up as well.

    Happy planning!

Date twin! I sent mine already because my list isn't going to change, so I didn't mind being locked in, and my wedding is a DW for the majority of our guests.

We're sending ours out in mid-October. We have a lot of OOT guests as well, and want to give them plenty of time to make travel arrangements.

@Celia, I don't think that was a helpful response. I get that you don't like STD's, but they are helpful for people with OOT guests who need to know about the date before the invitations go out. Hotels book fast, and it would suck to have no rooms available because the guests didn't know the date until 6 weeks before the wedding. Usually you are very helpful, but clearly she is sending the STD's, whether you like it or not.

I'm lurking, my FMIL is excited about the save the dates and kind of wants them out within the next month or two. I thought that was too early but half of the guests will be at least 8 hours away and most likely flying in from NYC. So I understand that she wants to give notice too.

I went back and forth a lot about this very same thing. Sending mine out mid November to be ahead of the holiday card rush. Plus I wanted folks to know in case they're early summer vacation planners.

I'm doing STDs, undecided if we are doing email/facebook group, paper, or combination of both. We have quite a number of out of town guests.

I think it also depends on the time of year you are getting married. June, July, August, you want to send Save the Date cards up to a year in advance, because people do plan vacations that far, so 6-8 months, you may be out of luck with guests. If your wedding is in January, that's less of an issue.

Hey! June bride as well. We aren't sending them becuase most people already know the date/have asked and our guest list isnt 100% just yet but it sounds like you got a great deal! I would send them out early november though!
