When to say thank you?

Arlene, on October 31, 2021 at 7:24 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6
Hello!
The fiance and I have an amazon wedding registry as well as a cash fund. As the RSVPs just started coming in, so have the gifts. What is the proper protocol to show our appreciation?
1. Waiting till after the wedding and send 1 formal thank you card 2. Send a quick thank you text or call when we receive the gift and then also a formal thank you card after the wedding3. Send formal thank you cards as the gifts come in even if it's before the wedding
We also plan to send our bookmark favors as a gifts to the guests that couldn't attend since most are flying in and traveling is tough right now.
Thanks for your help!!

Thank you! That's what I thought. My fiancé was concerned about us getting gifts now, being 6 weeks out and then if we get another gift from them we don't want to miss acknowledging it since we would have already marked off they got a thank you.

Most guests will give gifts for both shower and wedding at their own discretion and they figure you are busy leading up to the wedding. As long as you send them out promptly after the wedding, you are good. Anything prior is based on time availability but do your best to make the effort for shower thank you’s to be separate. Early gifts for the wedding itself you thank guests as you are able.

I honestly think any of the above would be appropriate as long as you send a formal thank you to anyone who gave you a gift within a reasonable time frame after the wedding.

I will say that we waited to receive our wedding photos for our thank you cards, which ended up meaning that most guests didn't actually receive a thank you until 3 months after the wedding (2+ months to get photos, another 2 weeks to get custom cards made, and then writing and delivering them). I do think this was too long, as the momentum/excitement of the wedding had kind of worn off. We sent elopement gift thank yous much earlier and that felt more appropriate.
