When is it appropriate to PUBLISH your website and how do you let people know?

Jennifer, on November 11, 2011 at 6:11 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 15

I've had a lot of fun on WW setting up a website (not to mention attaching a Honeymoon Fund link under registries), but I don't know how soon is too soon to let my friends and family know about it. I've shown it to my mom to get her opinion, but our wedding isn't for another year (09/29/12.) I've heard that you should wait and just put the info on the Save The Date (which I'm sending out next next March.) I would like to share it, but I'm afraid that if I post it too soon, people will forget about it by the time the wedding rolls around. What do you all think? How long before your wedding date did you let your friends know about your site? Also, is it appropriate to share it on Facebook?

I didn't publish it until our STDs. I found that information was constantly changing anyway, and i had a lot to set up. So I just sent it out.

I intend to remind everyone to make their hotel reservations after the holidays, though.

I used my site as STD, I sent the link to all my A listers by text message, FB and email, we did that about 6 months before the wedding

We put ours on our save the dates but sent them out early because it's out of town for everyone. We also put it on facebook and people wrote in our guest book that we're even invited. People put everything on facebook now a days so it just seemed normal.

But that was 5 months ago and everyone has pretty much forgot. So we're going to announce it again when it's closer and we have more information for people.

We put up our site on 9/22/11, exactly 1 year from our date Smiley smile People constantly go on our site; we know because WW records your number of visitors. When we send out our STDs next year, the link will be on there, so anyone who hasn't seen it already will get a chance to. We're also doing our RSVPs thru our site, so they kinda have to go back to visit it eventually lol

I've shown mine to a few people already... everyone will get the site on the Save the Date we send out.

As far as FaceBook goes... I'd do it with caution.... mostly because I wouldn't want all my "friends" to look at my site and know all the wedding details and then show up (without an invite!).

I agree Reeses. I haven't posted any info on FB because I don't want people to just show up at our wedding.

Mine doesnt have times or anything on it cause 1) I dont have them yet and 2) I dont want people to just show up. I did post it on fb but when 90% of your fb friends are family and invited and the other 10% live states away--im not too worried!

Im going to send mine via fb message so im only sending it to people who are invited or who i would want to come but cant for money/travel reasons. i have a lot of "friends" who think they are invited and are not so i would never post it to everyone bc i dont want them showing up!! lol

@Jennifer k- my wedding is the week before yours and we are sending out STD out in Jan/Feb and will have the link to the website on them and then ill also send out the link via fb. people might forget but the will probably check it right before the wedding.

I published mine when we sent the invitations, since that's how we were collecting RSVP's.

I put mine on my STD and my invite ....not that anyone other than my Sister has looked at it which worries me a little b/c the hotel information is on there. :/

I put it on the invite...and I share it every now and then on FB...I'm not worried about people just showing up.

I like to post it publicly because I am proud of it, and want people to see it and sign the guestbook...

    but then again...I'm not worried about wedding crashers. Let 'em crash {but the better have a gift}

Thanks you all for replying. I think that I will go ahead and start sharing it by sending out FB messages or direct email. Our venue and date has already been set, so that info isn't going to change.

Our wedding website was added on our STD's. We sent our STD's out like 13 months in advance because we are having a DW. I think its fine to spread the word now.
