When do you send out the thank you cards?

Rebecca, on September 4, 2019 at 12:54 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 15
How soon after the wedding is appropriate to send our the thank you cards? If we have a week before the honeymoon, do we start the cards or do we relax?

I personally would start working on them, but anything up to a month out is fine.

Yep - I think the quicker you can get them done, the better. We've been receiving gifts over the last month or so, and I've been writing thank you notes immediately and sending them, so that could definitely help you get a jump on things..

I would definitely start on them ASAP. You can never send them too early, but you can definitely send them too late. Obviously don't burden your honeymoon with writing thank you cards, but if you have a week beforehand I say do it then! You'll probably also have some to do after your honeymoon for those that send gifts after the wedding.

Yeah I agree with all of you! I'll probably do them right away like 2 days after the wedding. It'll be relaxing anyway lol, nothing like planning the wedding.

That'd be the last thing on my mind if I was leaving for a honeymoon in a week! I would wait til you get back. A lot of people wait for wedding pics to come back to put them on custom thank you cards. I plan on doing that so if they aren't ready for a month or more too bad.

P.S. most websites say THREE months is the appropriate timeline to send thank yous.

IIRC, the etiquette says you have up to a year. I think that's a LONG time, personally, but you get some leeway.

A lot of people I know use a wedding photo to make their thank you cards, so it can take a bit to get the pictures back.

DH and I just got all our pictures back, so we'll probably pick a photo in the next week or so, and order cards off Zazzle or something. Then we'll start working our way through the list. I would want them done before Halloween, since we got married a week and a half ago.

We messed this up. According to some sources, if you receive and open a present before your wedding then you are to send a thank you note within two weeks. If you receive and open presents after the wedding then you have a few months. Don't follow the year rule - I don't think that's really a thing.

I would say ASAP but no later than a month after. i would think a couple weeks is probably the ideal.

I'd say if they are out within a year you are fine but I'd get them done with so it's one less thing to remember (or forget lol).

We are almost a month after our wedding and I am just getting started on mine. As long as it's within a reasonable time, (like a couple months) I think it's fine. I went back to work (teacher) right after the wedding and it's been a really crazy start to the year this year, including an untimely death of a colleague, so I'm just getting to them this weekend. I'll probably bust them all out in a few days and get them in the mail Monday or Tuesday. Monday is 1 month exactly.

I did them right after I was back from our honeymoon which was right after our wedding. I send thank you cards before the month mark so the sooner the better.
