When do you send out the save the dates?

Futuremrsm, on September 4, 2019 at 9:30 AM Posted in Planning 0 15
So our wedding is October 17th, 2020. We have already had people think they arent invited, because they haven't gotten save the dates yet. We're getting engagement photos done next month for the cards and planned to send out the save the dates right after christmas. Are we waiting long or are my friends going crazy lol

Unless you're having a destination wedding, I believe the general rule is 6-8 months. Our wedding is May 3rd, 2020 and we'll be sending out save the dates in October (7 months out). I think your friends are going crazy lol, but I think that's to be expected. I've had lots of people asking if they're invited, some of which are a definite no Smiley xd

After my FH asked one of his friends to be in his wedding party, his friend was like "oh yeah definitely. I was scared I wasn't invited"

Another couple we are friends with is getting married (in may 2021 mind you) and they were freaking out because they were starting to make their guest list, and didnt know if they were invited to our wedding so didnt know if they should add us. I'm like, our wedding is over a year away lol

I sent mine at 10 months, and I definitely wouldn’t send them before October of 2019, that could be confusing

We sent them 10 months out. The earliest I'd send them out is 12 months out.

We have a lot of people coming from out of town so we sent ours out in February and our wedding is in November.

We will be sending ours before the end of this month for our August 8, 2020 wedding. So we will be around 10 months out Smiley smile.

My wedding is also in October of next year and I am having people asking me if they are invited or not. I just tell them I will be sending out STDs in late October or early November because we are also doing our engagement photos in October. So don't worry! Sounds like your friends and family are excited!

It depends on how many out of town guests you're having (FH's family is on the other side of the country so I followed closer to the timeline for a destination wedding), but I think your plan for sending them after the holidays sounds good!

I'm getting married 10/10/20 and I'm going to send out my STDs in Jan/early Feb. I already know of 2 other couples getting married the same day as us so I want to get mine in there before any other weddings rack up the same day haha. But I also want to wait until after Christmas/New Years so the holiday cards don't get mixed in.

Hi date twin!!! I was worrying about the same thing. I've only gotten one question about that ... from my uncle who was trying to make hotel reservations for this October lol. He was actually wondering where his invite was, not his save the date. Lol, he's very special. But I'm sure I'll be getting more questions too. I'm having my engagement photos done first week of Nov. so not sending them until after that Smiley smile Probably end of Nov. only because I have a lot of out of town family.

If your wedding is local and you do not have many guests traveling from out of town you can send STD's 4-6 months prior to your wedding date. If you are having a wedding outside of your local area/have many guests traveling from out of town it should be closer to 6-8 months in advance. I wouldn't send them any further than a year out as PP's have stated. We are having a domestic destination wedding and everyone will be traveling to our venue so we are sending our STD's out in October which will be 9ish months from our wedding date (June 27, 2020).
