When did you send out Save the Dates?

Alessandra, on January 19, 2018 at 12:56 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 12
Hello!

I kepe researching timelines for sending out STDs and invites. I get conflicting information. We are getting married November 3 of this year, and in our hometown. We are inviting some family members of my FH over in Norway, so I want them to have and early enough of a notice as well. Is end of February too early? We have placed the order for our stationery this week, but I don’t want to be crazy and send them out too early. Help! Haha

Thank you in advance!

They get sent 6-8 months in advance. If a select few are traveling far, you can let them know the date beforehand via call or text if they need to book travel.

We sent ours out at the 6 month mark (early Nov for our wedding last May). in hindsight i wish we had only sent them to our VIPs and family--a STD locks you in, guestlist-wise. (i'd include your overseas family as VIPs, obviously! anyone who you really want to be there and who has to travel a fair amount to get there should receive a STD.)

Date twin! We're sending ours out in April, but we have reached out to anyone who has to fly to let them know.

I'm getting married in August, I sent them out 2 days after xmas.

That wasn't my original plan. Another girl was getting married the same day and I felt I had to rush and send the save the dates asap. Originally I was going to send them at the end of January/beginning of February. But technically it is 6-8 months ahead of time Smiley smile

Thank you all so much. We’ve been engaged over a year and a half, so I think a part of me is also wanting to send them out so people know if they’ve been invited, since I feel like I’ve been talking about it for so long haha I know how silly that sounds.

Our dates are 9/14 & 15, and we're (fingers crossed) selecting our STDs tonight and finalizing our list numbers next week. We're looking to send them out mid-February.

We sent ours sent ours out closer to the 7 month mark just because of timing. Our wedding is the first week of June. Originally we were going to send them in December buy went with mid-November. We have a good chunk or guests from out of state so we wanted to make sure they got a heads up but also that they didn't get lost in the shuffle of Christmas cards!

I'm getting married Oct 13th of this year and I'm sending mine out next week. According to the knot app I should be sending them on the 23rd of January. It's a semi destination wedding, where 90% of the guests have a 5 hour drive so I'd rather send them out early.

Honestly a lot of people worry about being too early. I figured I’d rather be early than late! In my opinion, if you have your date and venue, send them out! Especially for out of state guests it’s more convenient! We have a lot of out of state guests and our wedding is this October. We sent ours out early December and a ton of people were grateful for it!

We didn't do them. I think they're a waste of money. We used word of mouth to pass along our wedding date.

The recommended time-frame is to send save the dates 6-8 months before your wedding date, but almost all of my friends have sent them out a year in advance! People's schedules can book up quickly, and early notice never hurts!
