When did you pick up your dress?

Caitlyn, on August 15, 2019 at 9:00 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 5

My second and mostly likely final fitting is coming up and they said I can take it home as soon as it is steamed/pressed. I'm debating if I should do that on the day of the fitting or closer to my wedding date (about a month away). My dress has lace detail on the bodice and the rest is satin. Any thoughts?

My seamstress recommended picking it up as close to the wedding as I'm comfortable with. She said that people have a tendency to second guess things or worry about it being in their house, and if it's with her you can't really do those things. My second fitting is a month before our wedding, so I'll probably end up picking it up a week or two in advance.

I picked mine up the week before my wedding. I didn’t want my FH to see it

My wedding shop doesn’t let you pick it up until at least 2 days before (unless you are doing alterations elsewhere or would rather have it at home) that way they keep it protected and will steam/press it right before you pick it up. I scheduled to pick mine up 2 days before and will bring it straight to my FH’s dad’s house where I’ll be getting ready day of.

My bridal salon also recommended as close to the wedding as possible. I picked it up on the drive up to our DW.

I guess I am the outlier because I’d say pick it up as soon as it’s ready! What if there’s some kind of mix up or problem at the seamstress? Mine offered to hang on to it but I immediately had visions of them accidentally handing it to someone else and it being gone forever. 😂 Better in my hands than anyone else’s!
