When did you have your rehearsal dinner: Thursday or Friday before?

*Mrs_D*, on June 30, 2014 at 5:14 PM Posted in Planning 0 17

So my wedding is on a Saturday, and I am going back and forth between when we should have our rehearsal. I would love to have it Friday- that is ideal. Our venue is about 45 mins from where most of our guests live. A lot of them are staying near our venue on Friday and Saturday night (those who would be coming to our rehearsal dinner).... But our venue has weddings on Friday, so if we would like to have a rehearsal at our venue, we would have to do it on Thursday.

Additionally, we are having a hell of a time finding a restaurant for our dinner!! And we finally found the perfect place (it is an Irish pub, and we are going on our honeymoon to Ireland. I mean... it just screams US). Yet, they are BOOKED Friday. I feel like this might be a sign that Thursday it is.

So tell me ladies, if you are having a Saturday wedding, Thursday or Friday? Does it matter?

Since we got married on a Friday, ours was on a Thursday. The rehearsal dinner is usually held the day before, but I really don't think it matters.

Ours is on a Thursday for the same reason -- venue has weddings Friday. For their Friday weddings they have their peeps do rehearsals on Wednesday.

I don't think it's that uncommon, plus as you said, lots of restaurants open up if you're willing to do a weeknight (and often the fees associated -- if any -- are less).

The only concern for me is that we have two people in our bridal party from out of town and one of them (maybe the other) can't make it out until later in the evening on THursday and will miss the rehearsal -- hopefully will be there in time for the dinner.

I don't think it matters all that much in the end. Whatever works best and causes the least amount of stress!

Ours will be Friday, with our wedding on Saturday, because we don't want to ask our BP to take an additional day off for the rehearsal dinner, since we're getting married 2 hours out.

There was a post a few days ago, probably a BAM post, and she recommended doing the rehearsal two days out. This way the night before you can relax (as much as can be possible the night before, lol).

Emilie, I must have missed that! But I am really glad to hear that perspective!

All our BP lives relatively close to the venue. The only people who have to travel have already told me they are taking Friday off anyways, so it would not be asking much Smiley smile I am thinking this MIGHT just be the route to go!

We did ours Friday for our Saturday wedding. For us, 3 out 4 members of the wedding party are from out of town, so to ask them to come in extra early and miss work and get a hotel room for an extra night was not something that was going to happen.

Ours was Thursday. It was great because we both got pretty drunk and didn't have to worry about being fresh for a wedding the next day.

Do a dinner on Friday and skip the rehearsal, so you can have it anywhere. There are very, very rare situations where a rehearsal is necessary; you put a good cue sheet together with your officiant, you give it to your venue coordinator and you're good to go. Honsestly.

I think the day before is best. My wedding is friday so my rehearsal is thurs. My best friend who is getting married this sat. is having her rehearsal friday.

But do what works best for you. If it's too inconvenient for booking things that friday, then go for the thursday. Also talk to your wedding party to see what they think and what they would prefer to do.

We are having ours the day before. The majority of our wedding party, including us, do not live close enough where they can drive in and then drive back home that night. Our wedding party/ immediate family are already getting a hotel room for 2 nights. It made the most sense for us to have it the night before.

Ours will be Thursday because we wanted to relax on Friday evening. He and his son will be home playing XBOX and I will likely be at my friends home for night. Maybe all of my girls will be there or we can go to dinner. If it goes the way I plan, I will be chillaxin on Friday night.

Would your venue be open to doing your rehearsal during the day Friday? That's what we did, we had our rehearsal at noon and then had a rehearsal luncheon after. It was nice because everything was done by 4 and we had the whole night to relax and hang out with our bridal party who was in from out of town.

Do it when its convenient for you and most of your bridal party. I have seen rehearsals 2 weeks prior so if thursday is when everything is available for you... do it then

Ours is a Friday afternoon. We did this because the majority of our bridal party is from out of state. Therefore we will have a lunch that afternoon Smiley smile

Our wedding is on Saturday so our rehersal will be 5pm on Friday with the dinner following. I personally am coming from out of town to my own wedding and a number of my family/bridal party has to work/go to school/come from out of town that week so figured I'd push it as late as I could.
