When did I get so big?! Anyone else depressed by clothes?

Annie Adams, on January 27, 2013 at 10:37 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 24

Im not built to be small. I was never going to be petite or tiny or cute. I just wasnt built that way.

But dress shopping - even for a rehearsal dinner dress - is making me feel huge. Today, on one site, a size 12/14 was an XL. Seriously? Way to kill my "pretty" feeling.

Anyone else feeling like this?

Me! I feel awful about myself...I've gained 40 lbs in 6 years...really less than that but its been the same for about 3 years... I try to work out and eat right but it never seems to work...i can't drink alot of water because I'm a teacher and the bathroom is on the other side of building so i only get to use the bathroom once maybe twice if I'm lucky in a day. I don't pretty at all.. You aren't alone

Sure, you don't even need a passport!

I am 5'9. So much about petite, cute, or what was the T word you mentioned? I wasn't petite even when I weighed 115 lbs. Which was... a long... long... very long...time ago...

But anyway, I was in Gap a couple of months ago. I held up two skirts, I believe one was a 14 and the other one was a 6. They were the exact same size. I'm not kidding.

Hahayou guys are funny. I keep worrying about this but I know regardless of size when the day comes, just having hair and makeup done, I'll feel pretty. Also every girl I know who lost weight for their wedding gained it back later...

I recently went to Old Navy and tried on their super skinny Rock Star jeans. I could barely get the 10s to fit. Then I went to another store, and their size 4 skinny jeans are big on me...

It really depends on the overall fit of what you're looking for, but mainly depends on the stores you go to I've noticed--even with stores in the same company 'family'.

But so long as you're healthy, it all depends on how you feel. I've gained about 5, 10 pounds, but I feel so much better and that I have more womanly curve, so I'll take it!

I feel you. Normal clothes, I shop at walmart or now Ross, their sizes in lg or lx fit fine. But designer clothes, yeah fail with proper sizing.

I'm making my dress so I wont have a problem with sizing. But last year I did go to DB to try on bridesmaid dress (one of my friends was planning a vow renewal - which she cant afford now ). I barely fit into their size 18! WTF, my normal size is 14...

Yeah, was told wedding gowns run small. My 2/4 was a six. Darn rear end. I'll have to get a ton of altering.

I completely understand how you feel. I went from a size 8 to a 16 in 4 years. I would stand in the mirror and go, how did this happen?!! I have lost weight but not enough to bring me to my comfort zone. I am so nervous to go dress shopping. What if nothing fits?! But I think it all comes down too there is nothing we can do at that moment. Regardless of what dress your getting, we just need to rock it in whatever size! Society has painted a picture that only a size 2 is acceptable. When in reality, with the manufacturer a normal size 8 is labeled a size 12. It's no longer about the number, but how you feel in it! I have seen woman who were easily 300+, and were absolutely stunning. Why? Because they rocked confidence. Confidence trumps sizes, in sexiness any day! Smiley winking

I have been struggling with this..., I'm honestly disgusted with my weight and myself, it's not a ton of weight but in like 2 months I've put on about 10 lbs. and it makes me want to eat more because it stresses me out. I've always been insecure about my weight, a size 3 was too big in my head ( I had an ex that always told me I was getting fat after I was no longer a 0/1) and now I'm 9 and going up... It's a hard pill to swallow for me because I always get that thought in the back of my head that because of him that my FH will not be attracted to me either

I know it's not the case .. But when you don't like yourself it's hard to imagine others do

Ugggh I feeel the same way! It's super hard because all I think about is how big I felt I look in our engagement photos and dont remember looking like a heffer....and at the same time I just don't care about how big I will probably look in my wedding photos since I'll just be so excited to marry my FH....i still think i hate my image more than not caring though lol.

I have been trying to change some things slowly to do a slow weight loss (changing the diet and portion control) and not just jumping into 2 hour workouts 5x a week because I know it wont last as long as permanent healthy eating choices..

The inconsistent sizing is annoying. I have a size 12 wedding dress and my slip is a 16W.

Remember anything "formal" cocktail dresses an wedding dresses run about two sizes or more smaller. Also if you look fabulous who gives a s*** it is just an arbitrary number that no else needs to know. They just know you look good!

I agree with all of you, I am scared to death to go dress shopping. I normally wear a 14 in jeans and I hate to think what my dress size is going to be

Don't be sad. You can try plus-size style. Or some stores offer custom service. You can custom your cloth. By the way, keep a health lifestyle, maybe you can lose some weight. I always get fat in winter, but when spring comes, i take exercise and eat less to recover my figure.
