What would you do? Plus sized and need advice as to how to style my gown.

Marla, on September 5, 2019 at 10:00 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 16
What would you do? I just had my third child 7 months ago and am at my heaviest weight. I love my dress, but I feel self conscious of my back and arms. I am thinking of wearing a silver bolero or some sort of cape that won’t cover the front of my dress or a feather or fur bolero (although I haven’t been able to find any in plus sizes). What would you all do? My fiancé finds me attractive, but I am not comfortable in my own skin right now. Plus, I worry about how I’d look in photos, and my fiancé is spending a lot on them. My wedding is in November. Thanks for your help.

Maria, you look absolutely stunning in your dress! If wearing something over it makes you more comfortable, that's totally fine. How about a cape like the ones I found on David's Bridal's website? I think the third option would be great with your dress!

You look gorgeous! And the style is very flattering on you! I feel similarly to you about my weight at the moment. I'm adding cap sleeves to my strapless dress, I feel like it makes me feel less like my arms are having a free for all. Here's the difference the cap sleeves add to mine (bear in mind they are just pinned on so not quite right). I dont have one without either cap sleeve but you can kinda see it without one in the first pic

I think you look fabulous! I how you feel though, I knew I didn’t want sleeveless because I’m very conscious of my arms. I love your dress, I like the idea of a little bolero jacket. I think feather might be too much, with the detail on top and then all the lace- but I’m not a fashion person so I might be the wrong person to be answering. Lol. I love the idea of silver that would be different and pretty. Good luck with whatever you go with, can’t wait to see!!!

Girl, you look great!!! I wouldn't even worry about itSmiley smile Right before my college graduation I did something called Whole30. It helps a TON with inflammation, bloating, not to mention I lost 17 pounds in the 30 day period! Totally not saying you need to, as you look beautiful in your dress but definitely something to look into if you don't feel like "you"Smiley smile

You look so gorgeous in your dress Marla! It's so flattering on you and I love all the detailing.

I think the cape's that were suggested would look stunning! It would cover the area's that you feel conscious about but will not take away from how beautiful you look!

You look stunning in your dress! i'm a plus-sized lady to, and I get it. I keep thinking about what my arms are going to look like too. I would try Azazie.com They have jackets, shawls, and shrugs if you really want to go that way

I was also self conscious of my back and my lack of shoulders so I went with a matching ivory bolero. These pics are from when I bought the dress. First one is without second is with

You definitely don't need any sort of cover up but if you're feeling self conscious...you can try a long veil. The veil would cover your shoulders. You probably wouldn't want to wear it all night long but maybe after a few hours you'll feel more secure and you won't need a cover up.

They were flats at David's Bridals. I ended up not getting them because they were not very comfy despite looking super comfy. I have really flat feet though so it's really hard to find anything that fits well with my feet. They were super sparkly and I wished they would have fit better! I ended up with sequin converse instead

I don't think they carry it anymore. It was on clearance when I bought it in Jan 2018. I can look at what size it is when I get home if you are interested in mine? I only wore it for the ceremony and a few formal pics

You look beautiful, you absolutely don't need to hide behind anything. No one will be thinking anything other than that you look gorgeous. But, if you will feel more comfortable covered, I totally understand. I'm also a plus sized bride and I'm not thrilled with my current size. My arms are also an area I feel insecure about, but I figure they will be covered by the veil, even though it's translucent it's enough to give me some peace of mind. Personally, I'm not a fan of capes, but a jacket like MrsV1027's would look great with your dress. But I love PP's suggestion of adding sleeves, I think that's the easiest way to fit a design seamlessly into your dress while giving you a bit of coverage.
