What was worth it vs what do you regret?

Jessica, on October 30, 2023 at 10:18 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 13
What do you wish you did looking back? What do you believe was worth the effort/price? What do you regret having or purchasing for your reception?

No regrets! Wedding is done and done now. Moreover, I have zero regrets on reusing my own shoes, jewelry, and car. I do have mixed feelings on a veil I wore for 45 minutes and family pictures though.

I never thought of them having styles. The last professional photos I took was for high school graduation lol. I appreciate the advice!

I’m not sure if we will have a getaway car. Is it weird if we stay onsite after? We might be decorating ourselves at a friends lake house and I don’t want to leave the pickup to my family and friends since I’m kinda going crazy with floral decorations and a possible pop up rose garden.
I’m not sure I want to do a veil either considering how my hair will be done. Thank your for responding!

Worth the price: I agree with making photography a top priority. It's the one thing you have to keep forever.

Not worth the price: Anything that would have put us in debt or not on track for savings, goals etc.

Worth the price - Venue (food was beyond outstanding and every guest commented on it) Photographer - husband/wife team so all bases were covered. Day of Coordinator - no stress, no worries, just enjoy being THE BRIDE

Would have eliminated if I had known: Dance floor. Our venue was on a fully covered patio, with the beach just off it - this is where the dancing occurred and I thought we needed a dance floor. By the end of the night it was falling apart (it came in large squares that snapped in place) I think just canding in the sand would have been fine.

Worth it: basically everything. I really dont have any ACTUAL regrets

Would have changed: honestly the only thing I could have changed with hindsight being 20/20 would be my dress- the off the shoulder sleeves made it so that I couldn't lift my arms super high (didnt realize to check this until my last fitting) and then because I've cut it up and I'm trying to turn it into other things that I can wear, the lace and all that makes it a very bridal moment which is just difficult to translate into more regular use clothing. I still love the dress though so its not even a real regret, just an "oh I didnt think that far ahead"

Thank you for letting me know of your experience! I was debating on a day of coordinator for the wedding and I think this helped me decide. I appreciate your input!

98% of the dresses I like are off the shoulder so I will definitely keep this in mind. Thank you!

Maybe if the sleeves are a little looser they could work?

I highly recommend either making them removable or making sure the they can be placed up on your shoulders then! It was really only a bother for dancing and so I ended up tucking them into my dress. This was after almost ripping one during a dip in our first dance

Worth the investment: Photographer & rings (the only things you get to keep after the wedding is over). Great food, open bar, and entertainment for guests - these elements made it a great experience for both us & our guests!

Girl, DEFINITELY get a DOC! Honestly, I had no clue about any of the "behind the scenes" drama (not that there was much) There was no worries about staying on a time schedule or worrying about 'the boys' (hubby and my adult sons - when they get together ... oy! LOL) or making sure the outside vendors had everything they needed. And best of all, the focus was on ME and then US. I read on these forums brides that want to (or need to) have a back yard wedding or do their own thing and I silently bless them because no way would I want that stress.
