Won't they do a tasting with you to let you try a few options? I can't think of a better way to decide!

This is a really hard decision without doing a tasting. I love chocolate cake from some places, but absolutely hate it from other places. Cake sounds really simple, but it can taste so different from different places. I think you should ask about a tasting if you can!

Ask them what flavors they offer. No two bakers have the same selection. You can't go wrong with white cake with a jam filling or chocolate with chocolate mousse.

I initially just went with a regular white cake and strawberry filling and then i found out my baker would let me do a second filling flavor on another tier if i wanted so i went with mango too!

We did a layer of vanilla with vanilla filling, one of white chocolate with chocolate filling, and one of pink champagne with salted caramel filling. The grooms cake was chocolate with cookies n cream. I’m not a fan of fruit flavors or pistachio desserts, and I found that some combinations sounded good but didn’t taste right.

Ohh that is difficult! Do you know anyone local who you'd trust to do a tasting for you and tell you what's good and what's weird?

We went with vanilla cake with vanilla icing. We didn't have filling options nor would I have wanted a filling. I am a picky eater though. I don't like chocolate cake and I'm allergic to strawberries so both of those options were out. We also had lemon or coconut as an option, but my husband hates coconuts. In my opinion, I would keep it simple because weird flavors don't appeal to everyone.

My cake will be a 3 tier cake... the bottom tiers will be limoncello and the top tier will be amaretto. Both very Italian flavors.

    No tasting?

We had a vision in mind for our cake based off some options our baker gave us and the last option we chose as a shot in the dark. While we loved our bakers suggestions, our “shot in the dark” - strawberry with passion fruit ended up being our favorite. On a normal day, never would we have chose that option and even our baker said she’d never tried that combo.
    Strongly suggest a tasting!

If you can’t taste it, the best option is usually white/vanilla cake with a plain whipped or buttercream frosting.

I say Red Velvet is always a majority-favorite. It’s fun and tasty! Or maybe try Marble, which is a pretty looking version of vanilla + chocolate 😊

No brainer. CHOCOLATE! Lol. I might be biased. You could do different tiers for your guests. Like one vanilla and one chocolate. Also in the past I used to bake and decorate cakes and commonly I would do per tier one layer vanila and one chocolate in lieu of marble so you get best of both worlds. At the end of the day which cake do you two like most? My FH and I love chocolate so at least one tier will be that. You cannot go wrong with vanilla or chocolate and vanilla or chocolate buttercream but I do recommend chocolate ganache or cream cheese filling.

Traditionally wedding cake would be white/vanilla with plain buttercream frosting. If you want to keep it simple, you would go with that. My fiancé doesn’t like cake that well and we aren’t spending loads of money on cake-just cutting. So for him, plainer the better.

Almond cake is very popular right now for weddings in my area. Had it at a friend's wedding and it was pretty great. I forget what kind of filling though.

My family actually used to have a bakery and made many wedding cakes ha! Strawberry shortcake (fresh strawberries, whipped cream, angelfood cake) was always a popular one!

If it's not too late, you can ask for a tasting. But if you can't do that, my favorite flavor combination is chocolate and raspberry. Chocolate cake with raspberry filling. YUM!!

We're doing a dessert table, with just a small CHOCOLATE cake for the cutting ceremony. Smiley smile

I’d see if you can choose two flavors! Can never go wrong with a chocolate flavor (or a marble cake with chocolate cream filling). For summer a light option would be good too, like a lemon cake or vanilla cake with strawberry or raspberry filling.
