What Traditions/Routines Do You Follow In Your Relationship?

Lisa, on January 11, 2021 at 7:51 PM Posted in Family and Relationships 0 78
Most relationships have their own traditions/routines! Do you go out for tacos and margaritas every Taco Tuesday? Or do you and your significant other collect specific items? Or maybe you dedicate every Sunday afternoon for reading books together? Let's hear what your traditions are in your relationship!

We used to do Mexican every Friday, but my husband got tired of it. So our only tradition now is making a gingerbread house every year for Christmas. Ironically none of them have actually been made out of gingerbeard. I'm not a fan gingerbread so I normally get like a cookie or chocolate one. I can't wait to continue this tradition with our daughter this year even though she will only be about 7 months and have no clue what's going on.

My fiance and I collect Christmas ornaments from new cities/places we visit together! We search the gift shops until we find the perfect ornament to hang on our tree (which stays up year-round) as a reminder of all the places we've been to. Another tradition we follow is when we travel (regardless of if it's a new place for us or if it's one we've been to before)! After we eat breakfast, we find a scenic place to sit (usually either by the hotel pool, or maybe in the lobby, or other common area in the hotel) to sit and read for a while, before we start our day.

I love the idea of doing a gingerbread house! Especially the chocolate one - that is unique! I'm sure that will become a very treasured tradition for you and your family for years to come, especially as your daughter gets older.

Well before covid, we had “family dinner” with my close group of friends on Wednesdays. And Sundays we always did brunch and Bloody Mary’s at one of our favorite brunch restaurants (we rotated 6 different places).

I'm thinking we will expand on our tradition and make gingerbread people once she's older. My husband gets really into building the gingerbread house probably because he builds houses for a living. I'd like to her give something she can be very hands on about and not worry about breaking. We also don't eat the house right away and I doubt she'd want to wait to eat it.

We go to the coffee shop every weekday. When I had to to the office it would be just for 30 mins around 6:30 but now that I wfh sometimes we sit and talk for a couple of hours. It’s become really meaningful to me. If I go in there alone the baristas ask where he is Lol

Before covid we would have Saturday dinner with his family. Now it's usually a Sunday date for us together or dinner at his parents.

Before COVID, we would always go to concerts and music festivals. We have traveled all over for music! And every concert we go to we save the ticket stubs, always buy a band tee, and we have a collection of drum sticks, guitar picks, posters, and set lists. Every year I’d take my grandma to a broadway show and now my fiancé tags along. He never went to one before but surprisingly enjoyed it!

We also plan an annual trip and for christmas we decided to donate gifts. We go shopping together to pick out gifts and do get something small to exchange with each other so that way we won’t worry if someone caved to get something.

We listen to history podcasts while we clean.

And, when theatre is a thing, it's tradition for our friends to cast him as the guy I beat up on stage.

Those both sound so fun!! I love the idea of family dinners with friends. Sunday brunch is always a great idea too (especially when it includes Bloody Marys or mimosas)!! My fiance and I sometimes used to go out to breakfast on weekends, but since the pandemic hit, we now cook breakfast together instead.

I agree, decorating gingerbread houses and/or people are great activities for children! They can decorate theirs however they want, and you don't have to worry about anything being destroyed. There are lots of great ways to expand on that tradition! When your daughter gets older, you could each decorate your own gingerbread house and have a competition, or pick a theme each year and decorate the house based on that theme, etc.

Date nights out are always fun! I love the idea of yearly vacations too. Would you plan to vacation at the same place every year? Or a different location each time?

Sigh....if it were me a new place and truthfully I want to go back to LA. We went in 2018 with low expectations but fell in love and he considered it to be our place so I feel there is something romantic about that. He for sure wants to go back to our honeymoon destination and I would too but only every year if we take a second vacation elsewhere. I am a globe trotter. lol

Love this!! The magnets would be easy to transport, easy to display, and fun to collect. The national park passport is awesome as well, gives a good checklist of places you guys could visit together!
