What things are you skipping?

Michelle, on February 26, 2022 at 2:25 PM Posted in Community Conversations 1 26
Either they are not your style or something you want that is out of your budget?

    • First dance. My fiancé hates PDA and doesn't want all those people staring at him.

    • Bouquet and garter toss. We've never actually seen these at a wedding.
    • Photo booth. I don't understand paying for these when everybody has a free one in their pocket.

We are skipping the garter toss. My FH is super shy & do not to go under my dress in public. I so wish he would loosen up because I'm definitely doing my bouquet toss. We also my skip the parents dance since his mom passed away last year. I didn't think it would be fair for me to dance with my dad & him not be able to dance with his mother

We're skipping the bouquet toss and garter toss. Just not our style. We're also skipping the father/daughter dance, because I'm not much of a dancer. I'm sure there are other things we decided to skip too, but I'm not thinking of them at the moment.

We're skipping the cocktail hour. Going straight from ceremony to dinner, buffet-style. Officiant will make an announcement after the ceremony that the bar is open, the food is ready, and that the couple will join them for dinner shortly.

Bouquet/ garter toss for us! Just not our thing. I’m also not doing matching outfits with bridesmaids, not really my thing either

What about Pinterest/Tiktok trends? Anything that is not your style?

Can someone explain why matching pajamas are a thing? It’s like families that wear matching pajamas during the holidays. 🤷‍♀️

It’s not a thing for most groups in real life but it’s a Pinterest trend that has taken a life of its own so people are convinced that everyone everywhere always does it. It’s a ploy to make you spend more money on “must haves” that no one misses

True. If you think about it, each aspect of weddings and weddings in general started from marketing ploys. That’s why we are on this forum.

We’re skipping a bit. We didn’t do proposal boxes, we are not having destination bachelor/ette trips. No toasts, no announcements (reception entrance) because if someone doesn’t know who we are, they are at the wrong party. No table visits during dinner because we will dismiss rows after the ceremony. No parent dances. Not a fan of golden hour photos because most are glare. No faux flowers.

We are skipping flowers. While we both love them we see no point in spending that much on flowers. Of course we could donate them when we are done or people could take them home.
It did end up helping us stick to the budget in the end as well. I was able to find a few things I thought would be nice for a winter theme. I know a good number of people are not happy about that but it's our expense.
What are you cutting out or not doing at your wedding?

We are cutting out appetizers during our cocktail hour as our ceremony and reception dinner are at the same location and only 1 hour apart. Our vendor’s food prices went up with inflation and so did their service charge percentage from 20% to 25% so we are saving $3,000 just by cutting that alone.

We are not having real flowers and we are also skipping cocktail hour. It’s not common in my area to have a cocktail hour, usually after the ceremony they go straight into dinner and the bride and groom will join after photos are taken.

Ooooh love this convo! We are skipping a plated dinner (buffet all the way!), the bouquet/garter toss, and the sparkler exit.

My fiancé helped me pick out my wedding dress. So we are skipping that. Also not having any bridesmaids or best man. We are skipping the tosses as it’s only family. No photo booth either.

Very happy to say there will be no first dance, or dancing at all, we both despise it personally. We will have our first game as a couple, and then lawn games for our guests.
