What song did you HAVE to have somewhere in your wedding?

JustSayNguyen, on February 13, 2017 at 10:43 PM Posted in Planning 0 29

I searched but couldn't really find another thread on this so I'm just curious, is there a song that you knew early on that you just absolutely had to have in your wedding? What is the song and when will it be played? I just started searching for music and have not come up with many ideas yet so I'm gathering inspiration!

This is a cute idea for a thread!!

    Thomas Rhett-Die a happy man

This will be our last song of the night. It's a cute first dance, but the lyrics "baby last night, was hands down, the best night..." kind of through me off.

Our last song will be after midnight, so the best night was technically last night then! Smiley smile

As a surprise for FH I want us to walk into the reception to the song:

A Railroader for Me by Logan English

As FH is a locomotive engineer it's only fitting. As the last line is "a railroaders bride I'll be."

Train- Marry Me. I cry everytime I hear it. I'll be walking down the aisle to it.

I also had to incorporate Disney in honor of my Mom who passed away in 2010, so my bridesmaids are walking to a song from Tangled, At Last I See The Light Instrumental.

This is going to seem super random, but there's a song called Godspeed (the Snow Goose song) but two folk musicians, Tom Napper and Tom Bliss.

When my FH and I met, I was living in the US and he was a grad student in Canada, so we were LD for a while. One weekend, I drove up to see him, and I got stuck in shitty traffic. There were road closures and the weather was terrible and it was just a miserable drive. And I hated the long distance thing and was wondering if I could really do this at all. And then I got to his place and he had waited up even though I was six hours late with blankets and hot chocolate and he lit a fire in the fireplace and played this for me on the guitar. And I started making plans to move.

It's our special song Smiley smile We went all the way to the Cheltenham folk festival in the UK because Napper and Bliss were playing there. Even though it was part of the set they played in again on encore because we requested it and I cried.

Here, if anyone wants a listen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mARw8y6to-w

Sweet Caroline. It's played every football game, and after every big sports victory at the college we met at for whatever bizarre reason. We're potentially using it for the recessional, or for our grand entrance, if we do one.

@Erin, I don't even like country music but I LOVE that song, so that is a very cute choice, especially waiting to play it after midnight!

I love this so far, I've been listening to the songs I'm not familiar with

Poison by bell biv devoe. Weird, I know. But when my fiancé and I were dating, it came on the radio in an ad, and when it cut off we both kept going. After, he said "we have to play that song at our wedding." It was the first time he ever mentioned marrying me. Smiley smile

Gravity by coldplay. Our friends had it as their first dance song last year and I fell in love with it! We can't steal it for our first dance, but I definitely want to sneak it inSmiley smile

There are plenty of songs we want played at our wedding, but a random song we want tossed in at cocktail hour or something is Helpless, from Hamilton. I'm Hamilton obsessed and FH loves it too. It's all we listen to

Golden by Chrisette Michele. I haven't figured out where to fit it in, but I know it has to play at some point during the wedding. It's such a beautiful song!

Take Me Home, Country Roads by John Denver. FH is from West Virginia and we both graduated from WVU. A huge portion of our guest list is WVU alumni. You cannot have a WVU wedding without playing Country Roads, gathering in a big circle, throwing your arms around each other and singing along!

You are so beautiful by Joe Cocker. I don't know why but I literally cry every time I hear it. Thinking father daughter dance with my stepdad.

Kissed from a rose by Seal - my dad for some reason ALWAYS said this would be the he danced with me at my wedding (no idea why) - but he passed away a year ago, so I am going to make sure the DJ plays it randomly and I am going to dance with my brother.

Fun dance: the wobble, I have no idea why I love it so much, but it is always so much fun!

Who Says You Can't Go Home, by Bon Jovi. I've lived Away from my hometown for 15 years, and moved back last April to live nearer to my love. We've found each other relatively late (we'll both be 47 when we get married), after a whole lot of living on both our parts....even though he happens to be the shy blond kid who sat behind me in homeroom in middle school Smiley smile We're getting married on the 36th anniversary of the first day of school in 7th grade.
