What Sold You On Your Venue?

It's been a while since I've seen a venue thread, so I figured I'd start one! What about your venue made you want to book it? Does it have a beautiful ceremony spot among the trees? Or an elegant grand staircase for the perfect reception entrance? Large windows overlooking the city from the dance floor? Fancy chandeliers in a ballroom that matched your vision? Somewhere meaningful to you and your future spouse? Convenient location and unbeatable price?

Share a photo of your favorite part of your venue! 📷 Or, if you haven't booked your venue yet, share an inspiration photo of what type of venue you're looking for!

Well our “venue” is my parents’ backyard. Personally I’d rather get married somewhere with meaning to me than a beautiful venue that I’ll likely never see again. It’s where I have lived since I was five and it has so many memories attached to it. Even after I move out, I’ll be farming there until my fiancé and I can afford our own plot of land. So I guess what sold the deal for me was childhood memories and the ability to plant whatever backdrop I want. 😊

    Honestly? The price! Haha

We knew we wanted either a barn or winery wedding but most of the venue rentals in my area for those are 20K plus.

We found a boutique winery for 7K

Our venue is at the museum we had one of our first dates at. It has just undergone some renovations so it doesn’t look the same but it’s still super meaningful, our style, and large but still intimate. We can be outside and inside. Our caterer is literally right next door. And it’s a blank canvas in every sense. We have a lot of freedom decorating and setting up and everything which was a huge plus! It’s also unique. My fiancé and o haven’t heard of weddings at our venue so that was a giant plus because we like to be unique lol

We’re getting married in a 1930s hotel located in a state park! I fell in love with the floor to ceiling windows in the reception hall and FH loved the history and architecture/design of the hotel. Plus he really wanted an outdoor ceremony which we’re able to have. Our wedding is in the fall so the trees are going to look gorgeous! We’re so excited!

The fact that we’ve rented our venue for Friday-Sunday and are able to stay there with our wedding party to have a fun weekend instead of just one day.

Ha! The price and the capacity limit and it wasn't ugly. $3000 In the heart of Los Angeles with tables, chairs, and lots of parking included and it could hold what was initially a 200 person guest list (it's dropped down to like 160, which bums me out - coulda gotten a prettier place) with room to spare.

This isn't the venue I would have chosen had it not been for that guest count - but you know, w/e. It's fine and I'm cheap Smiley laugh I wanted it in my backyard Smiley atonished

That sounds like such a meaningful place to get married! Plus, you could take a new set of photos there every anniversary if you chose to. It also saves a lot on venue room rental costs - those definitely aren't cheap. What type of backdrop are you thinking you'll plant for your wedding?

The price certainly helps make a case for booking one venue over another! This looks like a super pretty place for a wedding, and at a very decent price! Are you planning to add any decor for the ceremony space? It looks like a beautiful view in the background.

Exactly, money was another factor! Well luckily we can take some of the photos of just us in the hoophouses which should be full of pepper plants by then. 😍 I grow mostly peppers so I’d love to have potted peppers and flowers around the actual ceremony and reception space. ☺️

Getting married at the location that you had your first date sounds so special and meaningful! It sounds like it's got everything you were looking for too. Do you have an idea of how you're going to decorate it?

Yes! We are having the ceremony in the sculpture garden and don’t need much decorations. The reception area is a blank canvas and so we are going to do a lounge area, bar, tables, kids area, a dance floor and still plenty of room for people to spread out. We’re very excited.

That is convenient to be able to stay on-site for the entire wedding weekend! I love the lights in that ceremony space. Does the reception space have similar lighting?

I have a weird one: the bathrooms! LOL every other venue we looked at the bathrooms had 2 stalls and felt cramped. We have 200 person guest list (which to some is a lot, to us is average) and we did not want people waiting in a long line to use the restroom. I’ve been to a wedding like that once and I did not like it. So our venue has plenty of room in the restroom with about 4 stalls and a couch.

To be clear, the bathrooms aren’t the only thing I like about our venue, it was just the selling point for me compared to all of the others 😂 our venue has everything we wanted, large ballrooms, catering and bar included, pricing is simple, can have the ceremony there, great location for everyone, plenty of parking, I could go on and on 😍

I loved the industrial feel and the fact that it was all inclusive and made my life a million times easier. Although we booked it after they had a slight price increase it was still well worth it. The mezzanine where we will have our ceremony is beautiful. They also share liquor stock with the bar next door so we can get literally anything we want on request.

Most of the venues we looked at just didn't match the aesthetic I was looking for. Some were decorated very heavy and dark; others were too cheap looking or had an ugly carpet. Many claimed they could hold our number of guests, but when we actually visited the spaces, it seemed very small and cramped. Some of them were open to the public during event times, or would double book events.

When we walked into our castle ballroom, with its high ceiling and hardwood floors, we knew it was the place. Not only did I love the look, but it didn't have the things I hated 😆What Sold You On Your Venue? 13

Definitely can't beat that price! I don't think it's an ugly venue at all - I like the chandeliers, and there are so many ways you can setup the room. And awesome that you have plenty of extra space for guests!

I moved to Florida from Nj and always want things outside so this was no exception! It almost didn’t matter as much how much it cost. My venue alone is 7000, but it can accommodate up to 300 so no need to worry about the guest list. And it’s beachy, in Orlando where there is no real beach… lol What Sold You On Your Venue? 14

Oh, these venues all look so nice!

Our venue is a restaurant and winery in the area my parent's moved to shortly after my fiance and I started dating. We went down to visit them for the first time for my dad's birthday (I think?) and had lunch there, the food, service and wine was just spot on, and both of us turned to each other at almost the same moment and were like, wouldn't this be a nice place for a wedding? At the time, we just meant a wedding generally, since we'd only been dating for a few months and hadn't even discussed marriage, but ever since that moment, it was in the back of our heads as the place, if we ever got married, assuming it was within our budget and seemed like a decent deal. Well, after we got engaged we visited a bunch of places and it was still our favourite, so here we are!

we are having our ceremony outside if the weather permits, and it is also beautiful:

My venue sold me with the indoor chapel ceremony space!
What Sold You On Your Venue? 19
I absolutely love the idea of an outdoor ceremony, but the more I thought about the unpredictable weather here in TX the more I love the indoor option (wedding is in January), and I didn’t want it to seem like a “plan B.” Also, the chapel is as close to a church as we are going to get, and there is still something traditional there that appeals to me. I am so excited and I love this ceremony space.

The reception hall is a purpose built barn with a huge fireplace inside and out. High ceilings, chandeliers, draping, wood walls - elegant barn indeed haha! What Sold You On Your Venue? 20And the awesome built in bar! What Sold You On Your Venue? 21The price was also very reasonable, especially with the off season discount, and they offered additional packages (catering and bar service), which my mom was all for. But really, the aesthetic sold me when I first looked at photos online, and it absolutely did not disappoint in person.
