What shoes did you wear?

Ashlyn, on June 27, 2018 at 11:43 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 5
I bought my wedding dress and it’s so beautiful! But I don’t know what shoes to wear. I am healing from a broken foot injury so I don’t want to wear big heels but I will be stepping on my dress if I don’t wear heels. What did y’all wear? Should I wear heels for the ceremony and flats for the reception?

My train is also really long! I will add a picture. There’s a string at the bottom to pull it up and have it on my wrist but will it be enough or will I have to take it to get a bustle?

Wedges or block heels will provide more stability.

I agree with pp- a lot of dresses are cut for taller brides- DB dresses cut for 5’8 with 3 inch heels! So you may need it hemmed no matter what. I also thing some classy satin kitten heels would look lovely!

I would have it hemmed if you are worried about stepping on it. I would also plan on wearing one height shoe for the whole night. If you get it hemmed to fit heals for the ceremony and then do flats for the reception you will be stepping on your dress all night. A friend of mine had to put her heals back on even though her feet were killing her because her dress was way too long to switch to flats or go barefoot.

I'm personally doing a bustle for mine so I don't have to worry about holding it up the entire reception. I want to be able to dance and not worry about it.

Hi Ashlyn! This dress is beyond gorgeous, love the train!! Sorry to hear about your foot injury, wishing you a quick recovery! I have always liked a shorter, chunky heel for situations like this. That way you'll be comfortable all night and not have to switch out shoes for the reception! I'll attach a photo below for inspiration Smiley smile As for the bustle, that's totally up to you! I would personally say go for it so you can move around better during the reception, but if you'll be comfortable with the wrist then go for it!

When is your wedding? If you are still recovering it may take some more time before you can pick out shoes with any assurance of comfort and stability. I agree with PP that you should have the dress hemmed for the same height shoes for ceremony and reception. The dress is lovely, and I dont think shoes will be a focus of attention. If you do a garter toss, you could always change into a fancier pair for that. But I would consult with your MD who is handling your recovery and see what they anticipate you recovery trajectory to be, and if there are any structural/pain factors you should anticipate once you have finished healing. If possible I would wait to hem the dress until your foot is fully recovered and you are sure about the shoes.
