rachel, on April 19, 2013 at 3:12 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 12

What is the average number of declines, and also what is the average number of people not showing who do say they are? we invites 157 guests and have 100 total so far going. we have 14 declines. we have to pay for 125 no matter what.

Hey Date Twin! I think there's a lot of factors with RSVP rates. Ours is 80%. Invited 155 and 125 are coming. I really hope we don't have any "no-shows."

Out of 75 guest we had 6 who decline.. which worked out because we were over our limit anyway at that time.. After that we were missing one and we had someone filled that spot.. So it worked out perfectly!!

We had about 20% decline at my first wedding, but this one is much smaller and we invited only close friends and close relatives. I think we'll have a higher acceptance rate for that reason.

You really can't count on any average. All guest lists are different and it is difficult to predict your own decline rate based on someone elses.

We had about a 25% decline rate. However many of those were not expected to come anyway. Our rate of decline ended up being a little higher than we expected due to some pregnancies and work obligations from people that we would have normally expected to come.

As far as no shows, we had 4 last minute cancelations. 2 was due to a death in their family which occurred a few days before the wedding. 2 others were due to a family emergency in the week leading up to the wedding. Both were legit reasons to cancel and while we were unable to change our guest count for catering, we were aware in advance. We did not have any unexpected no shows on the day of our wedding.

We had about a 45% decline rate. We did not expect those guests to attend (OOT and inconvenient wedding date). We only had one no show (no reason given).

I know some brides have had 100% acceptance. It definitely varies.

Ours is about 40% as well since it's a destination wedding for everyone but us. If you're not doing an OOT wedding you can expect a much lower decline rate.

There were two or three brides that said they had 100% acceptance a while ago.

We had an almost 40% decline rate, Mrs. S had a 100% acceptance rate, there was a bride who had 75 accept and only 20 show up. It's really a waste to try and figure out an average or go by any supposed average touted by wedding sites.

    Usually about 20% UNLESS

-many of your guests are in foreign countries

    -it's a holiday weekend

-your guest list is huge (no one has 300 close friends)

-it's a weird time (like dawn or midnight)

-the location is problematic (like NYC)

-it's a very cool, very unusual, very appealing location

-it's a busy time of year like June or Dec.

We had about 25% say no. Some were shockers, some were expected. It all depends on your friends and family.

I send out 55 invites and am still receiving my rsvps and I currently have 7 declines. My wedding is a DW so most of the people close to me here have declined. But it was fun getting the first rsvp even though it was a "no".
