I think most couples choose flowers that go with their color scheme, as well as any theme they have for their wedding. At least, all the couples I know. I do know that sometimes couples want particular kinds of flowers for their wedding, and build their colors around those flowers. But when choosing flowers, be mindful of the season--flowers out of season will cost more to get than if you choose something that's in season at the time of your wedding.

But there are no real rules here. It's whatever you want for your special day!

I know I wanted a lot of greenery in my wedding because we’re nature people, and our wedding is next November. Since we’re DIYing our florals, we’ll be testing them out this fall to get a feeling for what’s in season, what we’ll be able to do next year, how long they’ll keep, etc.
I didn’t want to spend a lot on flowers and I love greenery so we’re going that route to save money.

The only flowers we had were bouquets and a bout for the ceremony. And those were chosen to go nicely with the MOH's dress. (Burgundy dress, pink flowers.)

Our flowers were the same colors as the wedding colors - honestly, that's standard, otherwise they don't "go".

We chose colors that represented our favorite baseball team, plus my favorite color, which is conveniently a mix of the previous two. Red, blue, purple. It ended up looking really nice.

I don't think the flower itself matters as much as the color. I'm having a mix of roses, hydrangeas, and peonies with lots of greenery but the flowers will all be white.

I did a range of colors for my wedding so that things wouldn't have to be matchy/ matchy. I knew my reception venue would be putting centerpieces together and that they typically did some sort of rose display. I did fall colors.

    Wedding bouquets:
