What is the ONE wedding tradition you hate?

IrishLoveâ„¢, on April 19, 2014 at 11:39 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 46

H and I and friends were talking last night about our wedding and a moment from our reception came up. I said from the VERY beginning I will not kiss when someone clinks on their glass I absolutely can not stand that.

At dinner we had JUST sat down with our plates and H dad started clinking his glasses and his whole famn damily started, and my friend showed me a picture she got of me giving the most bitch face stare down ever.

The clinking lasted no joke three minutes until the waitress who was taking care of H and I went over and told him to stop that I did not find it appropriate.

So I am wondering does anyone else hate this too, or what really erks you?

The automatic expectation that the bride will change her name. I'm keeping my name and some people have acted like it's the most ludicrous thing they've ever heard. One family member said "Well, that will make it easier for a divorce. You won't have to worry about changing your name back like some people do." Seriously?!?

Courtney, I haven't changed my name and H family let's me hear what they think all the time. I was even told I am a B for not doing it and that clearly I have an issue with their family and I shouldn't have married into it.

    It's 2014 not 1954 lord!

Not a fan of the bouquet toss. I didn't get married until I was 35, but I refused to join in bouquet tosses for the last 5 years.

The garter toss. The whole part about the groom getting it off the bride and then the guy who catches it putting it on the girl who catches the bouquet. That is all just too awkward for my liking. We won't be doing that or the bouquet toss.

I hate the clinking glasses as well. We refused to do it. When people tried we just shot them an evil glare and then ignored it. They quickly got the hint and we didn't have to deal with that throughout the night.

I don't really like how the mother-of-the-bride gets seated last and its a big production, like she is the most important person. Of course I'm biased b/c I was raised by my Dad, and my mom was kind of a flake, but still, in the weddings I've been to, the MOB just always seem so smug being taken to her seat, and its not fair she should get so much more reverence than the MOG (or anyone else, for that matter).

I also don't like exactly matching bridesmaids dresses.

    Tosses of any kind.

And honestly, I think the speeches are SO BORING that I zone out when I hear them. We are having one speech, given by me, to thank everyone for coming and it only lasts one minute.

I also get bored out of my mind watching first dances, father-daughter dances, etc. but I have to admit I'm doing the dancing anyway. We have a special song to dance to, and I really want to dance with my daddy! So my guests will just have to tolerate being bored for a few minutes watching us. Smiley smile

The feeding cake to each other hate that, the tacky signs "Here comes the love of your life." the smashing cake in the face never understood that. The clinking thing its weird.

I used to think the speeches were boring, too, but then we went to a wedding where the groom's father told the amazing story of his parents' emigration from Russia to Israel, and he tied it into a blessing for the couple, and it was just a very beautiful and uplifting speech.

I've never seen a dollar dance and never want to. Can't think of anything more tacky than dancing for dollars at your wedding.

The dollar dance is exceptionally tacky. Or anything else involving asking for cash during the wedding. It's 2014, you can always request cash as a wedding present, you're probably going to get it anyways!

Also the bouquet toss/garter toss. No thank you.
