What is something cool/different you will be doing at your wedding?

What a fun question. I also like reading these!

We are having our name cards double as our favours - they will be heart shaped cookies in our wedding colours with peoples' names indented into them.

As we're getting married at a winery, instead of a guest book we are having several bottles of wine from our venue with some glass pens so that our guests can sign them. We intend to open them on our 1, 5 and 10 year anniversaries.

Because my grandparents were Scottish and my fiance's name is Scott, we thought it would be nice to have a quaich ceremony as part of the formalities. Quaichs are double-handed cups that represent the coming together of two families - so our first act as husband and wife will be to both drink some whiskey out of the cup!

Also, our band is going to sing our entrance song - we've asked if they'd be happy to change the intro to a famous song to be relevant to us! That one is a surprise and I can't wait to see how it turns out, haha!

We're transitioning themes based on the locations of each event. Our venue is a science museum. The ceremony is in a space science exhibit (so will be astronomy themed), the cocktail hour is in a chemistry exhibit (so think labware for the drinks and periodic table coasters), and the reception is in an archaeology exhibit (we're doing the place up with ferns and fossils - the placecards will be ammonite fossils, the cake inspiration I have has imprints of shells/fossils, etc.)

Since it's a vow renewal, we'll be walking down the aisle together, and the song we'll walk to is an instrumental version of our first dance song from our wedding.

We're doing an animal meet and greet during the cocktail hour. The museum has a biology exhibit. I think we're picking the big tortoise.

We're having an interactive "fire and ice" dessert station. Flaming donuts, where they light donut holes on fire, and nitrogen ice cream, where they'll flash-freeze ice cream for you using nitrogen.

Basically, I am taking the fact this isn't a wedding and I can do whatever I want without offending any sensibilities, and running with it.

It's not super outside the box, but we are doing a fast swing dance for our first dance. We aren't really romantic-song people. lol.

It's trendy now but we had a boba bar at ours!

We're having an audio guest book instead of a book it's a phone that people can use to leave us a message.

Our wedding will be in October '22 and will be rustic, so in lieu of cake we are doing pies for dessert. Our "cake cutting" is going to be a pumpkin pie instead!


Our DJ is a friend of my fiance, and runs karaoke nights at one of the local restaurant/bars. We're probably going to end up with semi-drunk karaoke 😆
