What is a standard catering deposit?

Jenny, on March 22, 2013 at 1:05 PM Posted in Planning 0 15

Our caterer asked for a deposit of 1/3 of the cost, with the balance due the day of the wedding. Does this sound right to you? I thought that was kind of high, but I have no other experience with caterers.

My catering and venue are one in the same, but they required $1000 deposit, 50% of guaranteed minimum 6 months before the date, and our final guest count and the final balance is are the week before the wedding.

50% seems standard from my experience - Never seen the rest due on the day of, usually 2 weeks before

Four wedding, we had to put down 1/3.

I forget what we put down for my daughter's wedding.

Ours required around $1,000 to book our date. Then after our personalized tasting and full menu proposal being agreed upon they required 30%. I believe the rest is due when the final guest count is around 10 days before event.

We were not required to pay any upfront. We booked. Then when we know the final numbers we will send in $500. Then pay the remainder wedding day. Our total catering will only be around $2k.

I had to search a lot to find an event caterer for my wedding. I was not sure how good any of them will be. Last week my cousin went to wedding of her friend and she recommended me the event catering service named francofreshy corporate and event catering, toronto, ontario. from that event. I followed her suggestion and contacted them. They seems to be quite good with the variety in food menu. They told me I have to pay ⅓ at the time of signing the agreement and rest of the amount a week before wedding. It seems quite reasonable to me. I haven’t signed yet but planning to sign next week. I had venue decided and signed last week. With catering also decided , I hope I can be relaxed a bit, But I am not sure about it.
