What happens if you aren't there to sign for a package?

Silverlava, on December 17, 2016 at 2:33 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8

I ordered my FH's ring last month, and the shop said they would ship it Dec 21st. I work from home, so any day they shipped it, I could just make sure to be in the house all day to receive it. Lo and behold, the ring ships early (yay!) but it is getting here Monday, according to tracking. On Monday and Tuesday I will be out of the house on a work-related retreat that I cannot miss. Since it is so short notice and close to the holidays, FH can't take off work either. What happens to a package you need to sign for if no one is there to sign for it? Im a bit afraid they will just ring my neighbors' doorbells and give the package to them (we live in an apartment building).

See if you can call ahead to the Carrier delivering it OR go on the Carrier's website to see if they can hold it at the closest facility to you or if possible your leasing office. That's what I end up having to do at times.

I live in an apartment, when we are not there to sign they leave a slip they will either try again the next day or leave it at the local post office. They won't leave it on the door step if it has to be signed for and it won't go to anyone else, no worries.

They will leave a note on the door saying you missed a package and when then will try to deliver again. I think they will try two more times, then it will wait at the post office for you pick up there. After so many days if you haven't picked up it will go back to sender

Not all companies require a signature. So they may leave it or put it in your mailbox since it's a small package. Typically they will make 3 delivery attempts before returning it. You can also call the carrier and request they hold the package or sometimes they can deliver it to a different local location affiliated with them where you can pick it up. Here our hardware store and grocery store are affiliated

If it is USPS they just leave it at the post office.

If signature is required they won't leave it. They will leave a note on door saying when they will attempt to deliver again or you can call them and have them hold it for you. You would then need to go pick up.

This happened to me actually. Except fh was home but when the package got to the door the delivery man just left it there didn't knock or have him sign or anything.
