What food are you serving?

Michelle, on December 26, 2021 at 5:26 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 2 5
At your reception meal, what are you serving guests? How did the choice of presentation (plated vs buffet vs stations) play into the decision?

Also, what are you planning to feed bridesmaids/groomsmen while getting ready?

I’ve posted our menu a few times but I love sharing it because I loved our food! We had guests with a wide variety of tastes and preferences, so we went with our venue’s most expensive offering: a fully custom buffet.
At cocktail hour, we had passed tandoori chicken salad cups, beef Wellington bites and vegetarian samosas in addition to a slider bar (pork, beef and chicken customized with luxe toppings) and a mashed potato bar.
For dinner, we had an organic mixed salad, roasted vegetables, a fancy Mac & cheese, more (different) mashed potatoes, savory bread pudding, carved to order strip steak, lemon thyme chicken and fish.

We will have meat and cheese trays, fruit trays and nuts to snack on in the rooms where we are getting ready (bride and bridal party in one room, groom and grooms party in another room). We will also be placing orders for lunch (whatever each person chooses) at the restaurant in our hotel that will be brought up to our rooms.
We haven’t finalized our reception menu yet, since we have had to postpone. But it will be a five course meal prepared by a local chef, who will work with us to develop a personalized menu to showcase local cuisine while taking our guests’ tastes into consideration. The very first decision I made about our wedding was that it was to be a plated meal, absolutely nonnegotiable. I don’t know if I have just been unlucky, or if I just have too high standards/expectations, or what… but I have been to over 30 weddings with buffets, and have not enjoyed a single one of them. The food has been average at best. And I know that I personally detest having to wade through crowds of people in a dress and heels, carrying a plate of food like it’s a school cafeteria; so there was no way we were doing that to ourselves or our guests. We wanted it to feel like a night out at a nice restaurant-everyone to be able to just sit, relax, talk, and be waited on.
