What does a married woman dress like?

MrsDevine, on June 1, 2010 at 9:54 PM

I just got a comment recently that kinda annoyed me. "You know, if your getting married soon, you gotta start dressing like a married woman! No more ripped jeans and skateboard shoes!" Ummm... so what, do I dress like an old lady now? I don't get it. lol. The comment was from my sister, who's not...

Ummm... so what, do I dress like an old lady now? I don't get it. lol. The comment was from my sister, who's not involved in the wedding cuz she's jealous and has done nothing but talk crap behind my back... But anyways, I don't wear ripped jeans anymore, but what's wrong with my DC's!!! Did anyone start dressing more 'grown up' after the wedding? Or do you plan to? Also, I heard something about the wife chop. About how lots of women chop off their hair short after the wedding. Or the mommy chop where they chop it off as soon as they have a baby. lol. Why do people assume a big event means you need to change something about yourself?

The only way anyone "needs" to dress is how they feel comfortable. I plan on chopping off my hair after the wedding but only because I prefer short hair. Ive been letting it grow for FH, he requested it for the wedding. But in no way will I stop dressing how I feel comfortable.

People are stupid. I'm 44 and don't dress like an old woman, you can dress how you want and being married as absolutely nothing to do with it!! I wear ripped jeans all the time. Don't change a thing about you, you are who you are!

I've never had short hair since I was 18. I plan on cutting it to my shoulders after the wedding, the only i grew it longer was for the hairstyle. My hairs to thin to wear it this way all the time.

Im pretty sure ive been a grown up for a while now regardless of not being married. And i know i wont be changing my style because I become a Mrs. Paolone Im right there with you I will be wearing my DC shoes and DC sweatshirts and getting tattoos and being me!

reminds me of a story that happend last 4th of July

I was in the store buying more booze cause we made a huge punch and i realized there wasnt enough vodka so i ran down the block to the store I had a cute summer dress on and no glasses and staight hair. well anyway I got carded but realized i left my purse at my dads. I tell the chick that I will call my dad and have someone bring it. Then when i go back though the line 5min later she says to me "well maybe if you had been dressed like an adult i wouldnt have carded you" The guy behind me about died and even said something about it being out of line. Unfortunately she was the manager other wise i would have asked to speak to one. Some people just dont think before talking

That is an off-the-wall comment. I did start dressing more adult when I got out of college. No more shirts with like... apples and stuff all over them, and I honsetly try my hardest to avoid the juniors section. However, they have cute things that are ageless, and I will NEVER stop wearing ripped jeans and tshirts on the weekend.

I did start dressing a little more modestly after I had a baby (because my body is nothing like it was). You should never change the way you dress just because you are married, that is crazy.

As for the chop, I will be doing it but only because I am constantly growing my hair out and drastically chopping it off.

NEVER change anything about yourself! Remember that he picked you for who you are and it is no one elses business how you dress!

I'm still going to be the jean wearing, gaming tee, and converse wearing wife/mom on the weekend. I dress nice enough at work that I need my break on Saturdays and Sundays. I'm not changing how I look just because I'm married. Smiley tongue

Never in a million years would I change my hair/make-up/clothing, or anything else for that matter, for a man or just because I got married or had a baby. You are who you are and your sense of style, at least for me, is a big part of that. Have I changed my wardrobe at different points in my life? absolutely, but I am not going to start dressing like a nun all of a sudden because I become a Mrs. I like dressing up and looking nice and being stylish and do not plan on changing that after the wedding.

Only change your appearance if that's what YOU want to do. If you want to chop off your hair, do it. It's yours. If you want to wear conservative clothes, fine. But if holey jeans and sneaks is what you're comfortable in, then wear it and don't worry what your sister says. (or anyone else for that matter)

I'll still be wearing my Birkenstock's and sundresses after I say "I do". Just b/c your last name changes, doesn't mean your clothes have to.

Does that mean no more converse? I don't plan on changing the way I dress. My mom told me that now that I am 30 and getting married I need to cut my hair, that long hair is only becoming on girls in high school.

LOL sherri, that is not true at all. My mom is growing her hair longer and I believe that when women get older, they should have longer hair and hair color lighter but it depends. Like my mom is Italian and she look good with dark hair and I don't lol. The longer hair and lighter hair color for most women, it helps them to look younger and sexy.

I wont be changing the way I dress but I will be watching it... there are some things that Im just not going to wear anymore ... partly due to age partly that Im getting married but its not because anyone else is telling me to do so its just that I feel there is a time when T-shirts with sayings on them and hoochy cheerleading shorts should no longer be in my every day attire.

LOL @ Devine's sister!!! That is sooo funny, I would have laughed in her face!

I feel i've been grown for years.... and fh loves me as I am. He'd hate it if I changed.

i'm sure your fh loves you as you are. Don't let some girl tell you how your man likes you. Tell her to get over herself. BTW - is she married?

FH says my boobs are always poking out! haha... but i never had boobs until i started on BC so i don't notice how great they look to otherguys when i wear low cut tops.. which is all the time, i'm a fan of tank tops under shirts... but he's never asked me to cover up! haha! I guess he likes it just as much... but I am cutting my hair after the wedding... I used to have it long all the time but a few years ago I always felt like it was trying to eat me, so i chopped it to my shoulders and I love it!!! I grew it out so I could do more stuff with my hair for the wedding but then i'm cutting it back to my shoulders again!
