What did you forget the day of or didn't end up using?

Jolie, on November 5, 2019 at 10:31 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 8

We obsess over the things we all say we need to bring the day of to the wedding but did you really use everything you brought? Did you forget something important or that you thought you needed?

Here's my experience

What I forgot:

Large ceremony sign (this was leaning up against the wall in our spare room and was overlooked when I packed decor for the rehearsal. My husband picked it up from the house day of, but it didn't end up at the ceremony it turned into indoor decor mostly cuz I didn't write the directions either for where it goes).

Invitation (for photography purposes)

Tide to go pen (forgot this on the counter but didn't spill a thing that night!)

Waterproof mascara (makeup artist goofed and forgot this and none of my girls had any. I used her benefit rollerlash and it held up all night! I didn't cry and it didn't smudge or leave black flecks either)

Tips for vendors

What I brought and didn't use:

Makeup (I am a HUGE makeup buff but I didn't reapply all night. I at least thought I'd re-apply lipstick and some powder but nope. The night flew by and really I only went to the bathroom twice all night; all I did was blot my face).

Sewing kit

Bobbypins

First aid items

Ring's carried by the dog (This was supposed to happen but leave it up to boys and it get's done wrong. My dog's tux had a bow ribbon on it that you tie the rings too. Instead of putting the two rings together and just tying one knot with the ends, they tied each ring to each end of the ribbon and one fell off before the ceremony so they vetoed the decision. Basically I could've done it or assigned a bridesmaid to do so if I knew they were going to be so idiotic about it lol Smiley ups )

What were your items you forgot or didn't need? I think it could be helpful to future brides to not obsess over what we think are necessities. I am not saying don't bring a sewing kit! But I wonder how many times they are used.

I didn’t forget anything, but i also didn’t reapply my makeup at all, and I didn’t use the shawl I had bought. We had an early June wedding so I didn’t expect it to be cold outside or anything but since the wedding was indoors, I had a strapless dress, and I’m ALWAYS cold, I figured a shawl would be a good idea. But I ended up not even considering using it... I was HOT the entire time, probably because although my dress was strapless it had a TON of heavy layers, and also adrenaline I suppose. But yeah I was shocked I didn’t end up needing that 🤷🏻‍♀️

The only thing in my purse I ended up using at the wedding was my phone, which I’m actually super glad I brought because we were able to get a few great photos on it that satisfied my impatient self while we waited on our professional photos!

Aisle runner. We had one. But we realized we didn't have anything to hold it down so we scrapped it in general. Which was fine aha.

We didn't forget anything but we had stuff we didn't use.

Sandwiches!- We didn't have bridal parties so we figured bagels in the morning for us and our sons (FDIL is vegan and had fruit options) would work until we grabbed sandwiches while getting ready. Our sons ate in the morning, my wife did not, I had 3 bites of a bagel and totally forgot the sandwiches until the after party. We dove into them like it was Taco Bell at 3am.

Basically everything in the emergency kit- I didn't need safety pins, tide stick, or anything I just knew I wanted on hand just in case. That being said, I know I would have needed something if I didn't pack it.

Frames- We scoured thrift stores and painted these beautiful frames for our selfie station which were left by the door until well into the reception. Not a single picture included these beautiful frames so now we will have to use them for another party.

All of the wedding ducks- My bonus son ushered me upstairs to get ready and promised he would finish setting up. Everything was beautiful but little details like getting ducks on every table, including the cocktail tables, wasn't done. He did get them on every centerpiece though so the only one that noticed was me.

Literally everything was so minor and didn't take away from a thing in the end. All that planning and all that mattered was saying our vows and celebrating with loved ones.

I, the crazy organized lady handing out itineraries for everyone, forgot the MARRIAGE LICENSE. My cousin went back to the hotel and got it for me and then we all forgot to sign it until we got back to the hotel that night anyway 🤦‍♀️

Its funny now but I felt so dumb at the time. We got the certificate so it all worked out lol

    I love this thread!
Forgot safety pins (but luckily one of my bridesmaids had them! Needed them when my bustle broke)
didnt use the garter I bought—it had our fave sports teams logo on it but I only wore it for a few getting ready pics and wore a throw away one for the toss.
Didnt use the shawl my aunt gave me, but did wear it on our honeymoon lots!
didnt reapply lip gloss after the ceremony because I was too busy

I forgot to put on my veil. Somehow I didn't even think of it until I literally got to the alter. I ended up putting it on after the ceremony for pictures.
